Fred, I know, I know... and from one who actually thrives on "simplicity", one more gadget sticking into my aquarium is a pain. haha. But from all I have read, there is a fine line between a UV sterilizer being very efffective and being effectively, obsolete, based on having the correct flow/optimal contact time. I asked around on the forums and didn't get any concrete answers about how to fanagle my filter set up to accomodate a UV sterilizer. So, I went to some of the [fairly] local marine aquarium stores and asked to see how the UV sterilizers were set up on their display aquariums. Lo and behold! Even on an aquarium as small as a 40 gallon, the UV sterilizers were given their own pumps. And the water was pristine in these aquariums. One fella' I spoke to, told me that if not for his UV sterilizer, he'd have sold his aquarium years ago, because he ws just about "Beaten" by ich and algae before he got the UV. So, it must be worth both the extra $$ in electricity and the extra tubing and electrical cords to contend with.
