I am pretty sure that Cherry and Johnny have breeding stars all of a sudden! With my guessing I was thinking along the lines of Cherry and Johnny being boys and Pony and Soda being girls, but I was never sure. But now Johnny and Cherry have white pimple looking things on their gills! Soda and Pony are white fish so it would be hard to tell with them anyway, but I *think* they are girls.

One thing though, on Johnny I can only seem to see the stars on one side of him, is that normal or are they always on both sides? Cherry seems to have them on both sides.

Aside from watching out for the possible females in the tank, is there anything else I need to worry about? Also, I posted earlier in D & D before I saw the stars, and Pony has been spending a lot of time at the top of the tank even though params are fine, temp is normal and there should be plenty of oxygen. Could this be related somehow?

Thanks, I am so excited because I am thinking that having the stars means they must be happy enough to want to breed? And we all want our fish to be happy, right?!? biggrin.gif

Cherry DEFINTELY has them on her pectoral fins too! LOL, I have suspected Cherry was a boy for ages, but that's ok, a boy could be named Cherry, right?

I wish I could take pictures but I broke my cell phone and my ex took his digital camera back!

LOL, something is in that water anyway! Will the stars just go away eventuallyif no actual breeding goes on?

So a few questions:

How long after the breeding stars appear on the males would the females start being ready to release eggs? Or is it possible that they won't get any eggs at all?

Also, I have no plants or anything in this tank, if the females do become eggbound, will I need to put something in there so they can release the eggs?

I am not trying to breed them, I just want to make sure that the females don't get impacted or anything bad happens as a result.

Thanks!

Maceo
My Oranda pretty much keeps them as of late, and they get much more pronounced after a water change, I am sure there's a reason but I have no idea why.

That's good to know, thanks Maceo!

I am just worried that one of the females will get the egg impaction thing, and want to know if I need to have a plant or somethihng for them to bang against if they DO develop eggs. But I know I am looking ahead to far...although I did see some butt chasing going on this morning...

I don't know why Pony (female) is skimming the top...she just sits up at the top, I don't think she is even breathing the air. Breeding related?
