in english one of our vocab words is brackish and my teacher said ocean water was brackish, but i thought brackish fish and salt water fish took different salinity. isnt salt water and brackish water different? or am i just wrong please explain as well as you can.
sandy
It comes down to salinity. In nature the brackish area would be where the sea meets a river so the salt water is more diluted and the fresh water is more saline than fresh.
If you see what i mean blink.gif

Your teacher is either misinformed our she didn't explain well enough. The term "brackish" in both hobbyist and dictionay terms describes the salinity of freshwater (marshes, rivers, etc) meeting saltwater (the sea). Some areas that you'd think were the ocean are actually brackish-like some areas off the coast of florida where the manatees live most of their lives smile.gif Maybe you can clarify her?
