Full Version: A Question To Donya And Devs

Hi Donya, Just a quick question. Does Neritina Natelensis need scrubbing too? Do you think they carry water in their shells? I also saw in some other topic about higher kH...my Zebras seemed to be stuck in one corner and sometimes goes to the top over the water, when you say put them in higher kH, will they then have to be separated from the GF?

Devs, do you keep your snails with your GF? I separated mine a few days ago. Should it be fine to put them together with my GF again once they get the new bigger tank?

I am neither Donya nor Devs, but I would like to give my opinion and help keep your thread from going unanswered. I personally do not keep snails with goldfish. Larger goldfish will nip at the snails and eat the antena off. Mine use to do it all the time. Orandas are sometimes used to 'snail hunt' in LFS tanks, too. I had a common take a hunk out of an apple snail's foot once, and ever since I have not kept snails and goldies together.

If you do decide to keep the two together, the goldies should adapt to the pH, KH, and all that for the snails. Goldies are very hardy.

well... about Lady dodecagon's concern about the goldfish nipping the snail... I wouldn't worry too much about that. Nerites don't have "antennae" and their foot is smaller than the surface area covered by their shells so it's entirely protected from the curious nips of the goldfish. I do agree however that it's the goldfish that has to adapt themselves to the water parameters required by the snails.

Nerites typically move so slowly that goldfish won't even acknowledge them as anything other than part of the tank environment. wink.gif They, however, might give an occassional curious nudge that might disturb it and cause the snail to withdraw into its shell.
