smile.gif Hi This is my very first post on this site.I recently aquired a 55 gl and have moved my goldfish over to it.I have 2 currently a small black moor and a red lionhead.Along with that I have 2 apple snails in the tank to help scavenge.I have some live plants but i am looking to plant more like oinion plants and some amazon swords for cover.

I guess my first question is how many goldfish could I fit in this tank?I am thinking 6 max.

And secondly how many snails could I have in the tank to help clean?

Any comments would be great to help me out. and thanks for a great site. bingo.gif

Hi there captaingoldfish and welcometo.jpg

Well, if you really want the fish to grow healthy and strong and keep some snails, i'd just go with 5 goldies. They can grow enormous so the 10 gallon per goldie rule tends to get thrown out the window and the room they need increases quite a bit.

I'm not sure how many snails you could keep comfortably, hopefully our snail owners can step in here smile.gif

Snail produces a lot of waste also, you should count it as a gf. One snail needs 10 g of water also. For me I need more space for gf, instead of having snail I just clean up by myself

I read that as, "For me I need more space than a gf, instead of having a snail, I just clean up after myself."

Which makes me wonder... how many Koko's members can I put in my bedroom? Right now I have one Koko GF Forum member in my 9x10 foot bedroom, but it's being shared by 2 goldfish. Do you think I can add another member or should I increase the bedroom size?

I think I've been up too late again...

But Hello to captaingoldfish, welcome!

During times of partying, your room can safely hold 22 Koko's members. Keep in mind though, that the more you feed them, the more waste they will produce. After the party, you are going to have to to a major cleaning job in order to keep the room's parameters within tolerance.

Party stocking such as this is not harmful to the health of you or your room or the temperary Koko's members as long as you realize that this is an occasional thing and do not attempt to stock your room to this level on a regular basis.

ROFL

So that's what? 4 square feet per person?
daryl
That is about right. And that is a pretty generous volume - at least compared to some parties I have seen!

Well if we'd had it last night, it would have been at YMCA Camp Seymour on the , because I wasn't at home... I went out there to check out their fish!

But otherwise if the party is happening where I'm at... it's my bedroom in itty bitty town western washington, assuming I can convince my parents that having a party is a good idea.

Okay You & Daryl..... lol.GIF THAT WAS F U N N Y!!!!

As for the snail thing....I am not sure if this is true for the big ones but I had put in some regular snails. I was warned that they could become a problem (over population) but THAT didn't end up being a problem as apparently some one in my tank has a taste for escargo! blush.gif
