well i recently ordered a calico ranchu off of ebay. it arrived today and there was not only him, but an adorable baby ranchu as well! i'm so excited to have them both but i really don't know what to do, as i've never had a baby fish before. do i need to keep the baby separated from the other two fish? any help is appreciated. thanks!

unfortunately my tank is only a 10 gal right now, as i am saving up for a 36gal. i have a 4in oranda, the ranchu i got today is about 5-6in, and the baby is right at 1 inch. the little one sure seems to like the big ranchu! is it ok if i keep them all together right now, or is there a chance the oranda or the ranchu will eventually try and bully or even kill the baby? i have purchased a small tank, filter, and air pump for the baby just in case i need to separate them.

I would seriously look into grabbing a Rubbermaid tub, until you can get that bigger tank.Unfortunately, you're going to find out that adding those two fish to your ten gal. tank is really going to mess with your params big time.Do you have a water test kit to keep an eye on that?
Two of those fish are pretty darn big. What size is the smaller tank you purchased?

the smaller thank i bought is just large enough for the baby to grow up some in by himself. it is only 2 1/2 gals. i am waiting for it to get fully set up so in a day or 2 it should be ready for the little guy to live in. is there any danger with having the baby in the 10gal tank with the 2 other guys for the few days his tank is getting ready? i am keeping a close eye on all of them and thus far they all seem to be getting along quite nicely.

also, just a side note. i am just as concerned as you are about the two large fish living in that small 10gal. i don't have much in it right now, ie i removed any large ornaments to give them the maximum amount of swimming space i can give right now. i have every intention of purchasing a much larger tank as soon as possible, most likely just in a few weeks.

for now maybe try feeding less and changing water more often in the ten gallon.
