Does the filtration and aeration system in an aquarium affect goldfish at night time when they sleep?
Should I turn off the aeratinand reduce the filtration to low setting, or does it not affect them at all?

This is a great question! I have also wondered the same thing! Do the fish need a quieter tank in order to get a better quality rest? I don't know the answer, but i alway turn down the flow of the filter to low, and the tighten up the clamp on the air pump, to reduce the airflow, at night. I leave it like that overnight, and during their morning feeding time. Then i turn everything up for the rest of the day.
Dana.

I dont know how fish hear exactly (if they even do? maybe its a vibration thing) but you should never turn the filters off, I wouldn't even turn them down. My fish sleep fine as soon as the lights go off.

As long as there's a quiet spot in your tank then leave the air and filters going at all times. I have 3 filters on my 60 gallon but i've set them up so there's some still areas of the tank and sure enough, this is where my fish sleep at night

Thanks for the response. This will help me by rearraning my filter and aeration machne so there will be a quiet spot in the tank for them to sleep at.
