I've got a growing comet in a 10 gallon, and a quite large comet in a 20 gallon (I think it's 20 gallon, not positive, but definitely no smaller than that). I'm thinking of getting a larger tank and moving them in together - possibly leaving room for one more. Would a 55 gallon be good for that? I know the 10 gallon rule, but Mr Fish is quite large (a good 8 inches, though half of that is tail), and Leif I know will get there too (he's maybe 4 or 5 inches now, got him as a bitty feeder). I want them to have plenty of room.
Thoughts?

55 for sure, if not a bigger one.

Comets can get even larger than that. Mine is around 12 inches long, half of it is tail, and he would not be too happy in a 55 gl tank, since they are kind of narrow, and he would have a hard time turning around. A 75 gl tank has the same height and length, but has almost double the width to it, that would be perfect!

Do you have the dimensions for those?
And, what are the chances of finding something like this relatively cheaply secondhand? I've got some time to look, the present tanks are quite good enough at least for another six months. By cheaply I mean under $100, preferably including the stand, cover, light, etc. Am I crazy, or could I find that if I comb classifieds, thrift stores, and yard sales for the nest few months?

you can get a complete 55 gal kit at nnnnnn for $159. those tanks are like 14-15 inches wide I think, not sure. I dont see why it would have trouble turning unless it became as long as the tank was wide and im talking body length. It would take like 10 years for a comet to reach 12+ inches in bodylength(18+ total if you include tail) now that is massive
