These are some Blog Enteries I have been posting on various forum on the net, all are the same and they date back for awhile.

[July 18, 2006] Pond up and Running

I would like to personally thank all that has helped me throught this year for my Pond,
especially Jon for all the help with the filtration. Now its up and running like a dream.
So far no leaks, except a few drops in the inlet. The water is in, and the filtration is
running without the airpump and HSA media (Getting in on Saturday), but looks ok
for now. The water was added in yesterday and will be ageing for a few days, will
place the 3 trial fish on Friday.

Once the trial fish has been added, I will let them run for a week or so. Keeping track
on the water parameters. The fish will be fed once a day on the 3rd day of trial to add
a kick start to the filter.

Hope all goes well, some photos to share my excitement.

Motogoru on pec fins), a Tancho (purchased from Ross) and 2

Added two mesh bags, one with oyster shells and one with Zeolite.
I purchased these bags because its easier to clean and I can hang
them somewhere which water passes through them. I dont have
much oyster shells, but the bag can easily opened, so its very good.

After the hot weather, my water has turn into Pea Soup. After checking out my UV-S, the waiting day to order the bulbs is a few weeks, so I decided to purchase a UV-C. The UV-C is 9w and is made by PondMaster. It cost me $135 and i've installed it in my settleing tank. A 1500lph is placed halfway in the setteling tank, then its connected to hoses then into the UV-C. Since the algae cells bond together, I want it to settle back in the settling tank, so the return is back into the setteling tank. Hopefully in a few weeks time my water will be clear again.

During the storm a few days ago, my cable modem got fried so had to wait for Optus to come fix it up.

I managed to take some photos before Steve came over and I managed to get my UVC mov clip up. Oh and hope you like my "budget" measuring ruler for my tub tongue.gif

Great setup, Mango! I am a great fan of the settling chamber, or container, in your case. You don't have anything in it except the zeolite and oyster shell bags, right? And I do see a drain on the bottom to just open and let the gunk run out - perfect!

Where were you able to position the plant to get some daylight? Looks like both containers are closed with a lid, so there wouldn't fall any sun light inside the filters?
I love the idea of changing the direction of the outflow. I did the same thing with my goldfish tub - gives the fish a current to exercise in.

I can only say 'WOW'

Wow the attention your fish get from you..... bath.gif

Thanks.

I actually pulled the plants out of the settling chamber (the first drum). The water from the pond goes into the side of the first drum creating a vortex in it. The solids settle at the bottom and the water go through a bucket with static media to filter other smaller particles. Then clean water goes through to the next chamber (the moving fluid bed), which is the biological filter. I have enough media in there to filter 600g of food a day. So far with all my fish, Im not even feeding 100g of food a day so it should be ok. The bacteria in the moving bed reduces the ammonia making the filteration work. So far im happy with the results, the biggest test is in the summer.

Looks like a great setup! Love the video too. smile.gif

(I'm seriously trying to improve the filtration on some of my tanks. Your pond looks very good and is giving me some really good ideas. rockwoot.gif )
