I am using Enheim 2125 and Aquaclear 70. I did the 50% water change and added another dose of PC. Red color at fins is getting less than yesterday. I hope everything will be ok.

I am seeing a long white poop from Ryukin again

I feed them medigold only.

If they are flukes Fred, it will take 2 maybe 3 doses of PC (although the other med would have done some damage to them - so 2 should suffice) and they cause a great deal of wear and tear on fish especially in the way of secondary bacterial infection. So you're doing everything right and as long as they've still got wonderful appetites, continue feeding the medigold 2-3 times a day. The PC has acriflavin as an ingredient and this is a good antibacterial med

How does the tank smell after the waterchange?

12 hours after 2nd dose
they are active....
Smell go away after the water change. Luckily they are still eating though...

This sounds positive

I really do hope the second dose eradicates these nasties then their immunity can have a chance to strengthen... It sounds like it's showing good results so far

Thanks a lot Jen,
You help me a lot. Should I go for the 3rd round?
JenW
Sep 21 2006, 05:12 AM
That's a pleasure Fred and I'm quietly confident all will come out well in the end. As for a 3rd round, check back in 12 hours with an update and we'll see.
Do you know what I did when I wanted to fight or even identify parasites? I purchased a microscope and found the key areas on a fish to scrape. Then I armed myself with information on parasites (more of an image library) so I knew what I was looking for. This is by far the best way to indentify and treat and I can't praise them enough as an invaluable tool for any fishkeeper plus it helps to know if the medication is working and whether or not a subsequent treatment is needed. If you have an interest in this area - it might be food for thought??

I am waiting for delivery of a microscope. It's on its way now. I will update the info soon.. Thanks again.

24 hour after 2nd dose of PC:
They are not as active as this morning. Red fins turn into black (it looks scary). And also they eat less than what they did from this morning. And I see white poop... but no flashing though. Should I wait for another 24 hour to end 2nd dose? Thanks.
JenW
Sep 22 2006, 12:47 AM
Yes, let it run its course. Is there any way you can take a pic of the area of blackness? After the dose of PC - I think they'll need a rest from the meds and salt. What's your salinity level? Still 0.1% I'd then do some massive waterchanges to make the water as perfect as possible with no additives and then take a step back and observe for 24 hours.

Image of black Fin Salt is at .1%. After the water change, should I use carbon to remove medication? Thanks a lot
JenW
Sep 22 2006, 03:05 AM
You can use carbon, it will help remove the meds. But I'd also include some nice 50% waterchanges to make the water beyond perfect. Is the dorsal frayed? I can't really see the black but there looks to be some rot around the edges - is this what I'm seeing?

Sep 22 2006, 03:09 AM
You can see at the fin right under the belly. I know the camera doesn't work properly. Thanks a gain..

How about medigold?
JenW
Sep 22 2006, 03:40 AM
Definitely keep that up until we see some impovement

How long have you been feeding Medigold for now?
small_ranchu
Sep 22 2006, 04:47 AM
Medigold, uhmm.... since I saw the red fin. So 1 week I guess.

Sep 22 2006, 04:07 PM
I did 50% water change. I also put carbon in the media. I will post the progress. Thanks.

How do I heal the fin? They seem ok now.
JenW
Sep 22 2006, 06:53 PM
The fins should start to heal with excellent water and I'd also continue feeding medigold for another couple of weeks.
I'm glad they're doing better

Thanks Jen, I will give them medigold and keep up with the last condition.

Problem

They are flashing. By the way, I got my microscope. What should I do with it? Thanks.
JenW
Sep 24 2006, 04:54 AM
I think the best way to help you will be with pictures so let me go and hunt out my book and take some pics then i'll post back. How often are they flashing? Are they yawning at all? Gills still look a nice meaty red?
I'll post back in a moment with images of the sites to take scrapes and walk you through it.

Sep 24 2006, 05:02 AM
Thanks a lot Jen... I will post some video. They are flashing once an hour

. They are not yawning though. I will check their gill soon. Thanks again. you are the best...

Here's the pic of the areas for scoping and sorry about the blurryness - I was trying to hurry

When I scape my fish, basically I do the following:
1. I gently hold the fish in my hand without trying to remove too much slime coat and with a plastic slip, take the first scape from the underside
2. Hold the plastic slip at a (roughly) 45 degee angle and scrape towards you
3. Get a glass slide ready and place a drop of tank water onto the slide
4. Join the plastic slip onto the slide where the water is to form a seal and place under your scope
What strength scope did you get?
I always start at the area just near the gills but for your fist go, it may be easier to take a scrape from the underbelly or the fins. See how you go and let us know how it works out.

Flashing:
Here is the video clip for flashing pearlscale. He is the only one who flash alot. The others do not flash at all.
Video.
Black Fin:
My Ryukin has a black fin since he had a fin root from his previous cure of fluke and fin rot.
video What should I do next? Help me please. Thank you.

Fred, I've watched the video a few times and can't see any flashing. That's how my fish swim and they don't have parasitesl. Flashing is really erratic swimming where they scratch and try to rub their bodies.
Do you see them try and scratch on things at all?
small_ranchu
Sep 24 2006, 03:42 PM
I am assuming pearlscale from 1st video is flashing.
How do I cure the black fin from Ryukin? Their fin are splitting also. I think it is the side effect form medicine.
Thanks.

Sep 24 2006, 05:52 PM
Should I consider they are good? Thanks.
JenW
Sep 24 2006, 11:57 PM
I would now go with excellent water as it's going to be the most essential ingredient to curing this finrot - that and medicated food. Just observe for the next couple of days and watch for any further deterioration but for now, excellent water is necessary. My moor had nasty finrot during treatment for parasites and once I ended the treatment, and just stuck with medicated food, his fins have improved enormously.
See if this helps him

PS. How did you go with scraping and scoping?

New Microscope just come with plastic slides which is not good. I am ordering glass slides now. Thank you Jen...

Hi Fred - any news on your guys?
small_ranchu
Sep 26 2006, 02:53 AM
Jen,
Thanks for asking. They seem ok now. They are on medigold now.
Sad news, I bought a fish form Thailand and the fish died on its ways to transhipper. The firm said they are going to replace but I feel very bad for the poor fish.
JenW
Sep 26 2006, 03:35 AM
That's sad Fred - poor thing. I hope the next one arrives nice and healthy and you'll have to take pics when you get him/her

I'm glad your fish seem to be doing better

One of them have splitted fin so far. The black fin is turning into healthy black and I believe she will be ok in a few. Should I keep using medigold?

Hi Jen,
My fishes are getting better now. Thanks a lot for your help.

That's such great news Fred

... I might move this out of emergency and into diagnosis & discussion as it sounds like they're out of the woods now...
PS. I would feed the medigold for a further week just to be on the safe side, then you can resume their normal diet
