Been having a few algae probs with my betta tanks despite weekly water changes and the light only being on from 6pm to 11pm.I'm wondering if it would be safe to put a snail in each tank to aid getting algae under control.I'm not so sure about the snail in my males tank as he freaked out at the new heater when it went in after his old one started leaking He was flaring at it for 3 days.If I could add a snail what would be best smile.gif

I put a couple of snails in with my male betta when I needed to medicate the community tank. Even though the betta was old and on his last fins he still wouldn't leave those poor snails alone.

What size is your Betta's tank Blue? The thing with Snails and Betta's is that the majority of the time,Betta's do not care to share their space with them. rolleyes.gif
I also have to say that I have alot of snails, both Brig's and Cana's,and Algae is usually their last choice in the food department. They'll eat that if there's not any thing else.Depending on your tank size, you may want to look into Oto's or maybe a Bristlenose.

My males tank is a 5 gallon and my females is a 10 gallon.
I did have a chinese algae eater in with my male once but now that algae eater is in his own tank due to him and the betta fighting as originally I had my male in the 10 gallon. This is why I was thinking snails.

I had my male betta in with a bunch of snails and he didnt bother them. But the snails wont do much if anything for the algae problem. Theyre poop machines! biggrin.gif

Begining to look like I will be resigned to cleaning algae away myself. Its disgusting looking stuff.

Same with me, I had my snaily Gary in with my male betta and he did NOT leave that thing alone! I felt so bad for the snail with his little poky air-tube out and the betta was like "HAH! take THAT!" it was... sad... and it only lasted 10minutes... ignore.gif

Betta's are real funny little fish.Every once in a while, you hear about a pretty peaceful one,but most can be really "bratty" when sharing a tank.My poor snails always had missing Antenna's,but in truth,I did have one tropical 30 gal.that housed a Betta and snails amongst other fish, and he was too busy stealing everones food to bite off any antenna's. rolleyes.gif rofl3.gif
