At pet co the discription says they neend some if this is ture how much this is the same for petsmart

I've heard that as well, but in my opinion, they don't need it. My guppies seem to do fine without it and I've had them for about 2 months. However I should mention that my tap water does have a lot of dissolved minerals and there could be some naturaly occuring salt.

All livebearers should have some salt in the tank. Mollies are a known true brackish species and some even saltwater.
Just follow the instructions on the packet and if there are none for livebearers then half to one teaspoon per gallon is enough.

I don't keep salt in with my guppies either. My guys and girls have been fine for over a year without any. I have a bit of salt around for medicinal purposes though, just incase
