I use a net and then place them in cups. So far I've never had jumpers. Are you having problems catching him or keeping him in a container while changing the water? Just be more careful with catching him. If you have to, cup you had and carefully scoop him out and quickly place him into a cup. If he jumps out of the cup, take plastic wrap, put it over the cup, and poke holes in the top.

I have 10 gal tanks, so I don't usually have to take my Bettas out unless I'm doing a very big clean and then I use a small jug to scoop him out with some water at the same time. In smaller tanks and bowls it is kinder (and a lot easier) to take them out and put them in another container.

Personally, I would try to avoid nets if possible as Bettas, particularly males, have very delicate finnage and nets can cause a lot of damage if you're not very careful. I would use a cup or small jug to scoop him out of his tank or bowl and then either leave in there (securely covered, allowing air holes too) or take a bit more of the old water out and use another small bowl to put him in. If you cover whatever he's in to keep him dark it will help to reduce stress and prevent him from jumping. Some members have bettas that will just swim straight into their cup or jug when water changes are due! smile.gif

I always use a solid cup for my bettas too. They do not like being caught, but I try to feed them in there during water changes in hopes that they won't think so bad of it. ALWAYS tightly cover the cup or whatever (with tinfoil etc) you keep him in during waterchanges. Bettas a big jumpers and the main tank should be covered anyway, but they are stressed in the cup and they want to go back to their tank...so they jump. Its a very common thing.

A (cleaned) disposable latte cup from a local coffee shop works well for me, and it has a nice snap-on lid. Plus, if I'm moving multiple fish in the cups, I can put them in a drink tray and off we go...

The completely clear ones I can usually just scoop him up in.
