Full Version: New Filter?

Hi,

I've a ten gallon tank with one growing comet in it (we'll be having space problems soon, I think), he's got an undergravel filter in there. The thing is ok, but after lots and lots of partial water changes, it just gets full and fails, and the whole tank has to be redone - which I'm fully aware is a bad thing, not to mentioa pain in the neck. I have an AquaClear on my 20 gal and I love it, but my problem with getting an AquaClear for the smaller tank is that there is no space between the back of the tank and the wall for the filter to hang - and in my small apt there is really no good place to move the tank to. I can move it if I have to, but I'd rather not. Are there any *inexpensive* (not much more than an AquaClear Mini) filters that aren't UGF are don't hang over the back of the tank?

This is not an urgent question, since I just redid the tank yesterday and I won't be changing the filtration again very soon - poor guy is traumatized enough from his stay in a batter bowl yesterday!!

TIA
Desiree

I have exactly the same problem as you do (not any room behind one of my tanks). I solved this by using a Fluval Plus internal filter. They are great little filters, and just use sponges similar to the Aqua Clear sponges. They fit inside the tank, are black, so they don't show very much, and they hang on the glass by suction cups.

I would recommend getting a Fluval Plus 2 which has a turnover rate of 100 gph. The Fluval Plus 2, 3 and 4 have adjustable flow (both rate and direction) and have an optional venturi attachment. I use the venturi attachment because it greatly increases the aeration of the water. The Fluval Plus 1, isn't adjustable and only has a turnover of 50 gph, so I wouldn't recommend one of those for your needs.

I hope this helps.

Oh, and I should have mentioned that the Fluval Plus filters are very quiet biggrin.gif
