I took my old 10g out of the closet, set an aquaclear 150, gravel, and put a golden crayfish in it. This guy is great! He spends the day digging holes and carrying gravel from one place to another biggrin.gif Do any of you have experience with crayfish? Any ideas for decoration?

Oooh yes, we kept crayfish for a while. Red ones. they kept having eggs (so one maybe for the best! )they crawl out of the tank and walk around the house so be careful of that. I remember we made a little bridge so they could come up and walk over that...they seemed to have loads of energy biggrin.gif

rofl3.gif , Your description gave me a visual ! I could just see all these crayfish coming into the kitchen looking for dinner! biggrin.gif They do sound like very busy little guys!

Hows about some nice crayfish friendly wood.I remember seeing a crayfish tank it was full of blue ones and there were nice bits of either driftwood or bogwood in with them. They were gorgeous.

When I was younger I was scared of crayfish! boom.gif Probably still am actually. I would love to see a pic of the golden one!

I love setting them up with sand and some rock caves. Driftwood would also be great for him to climb out on or nibble at (my hermit crabs love eating wood; I would assume a crayfish would also do that). You could even put in some aquatic plants like anacharis or parrot feather. I love the natural look.

Most importantly, get a secure screen or glass lid!!

Post pics of everything when you can. It sounds neat!

yes get pics also do they have to be alone

smile.gif Congrats on the new crayfish. js has given you some sound advice here-especially a lid. biggrin.gif As much as I like those guys,I wouldn't want them parading around the house, although my cat's would love it. ignore.gif
Depending on the size of the crayfish, they normally tell you to allow about 10 gals. per each.I've seen smaller ones kept in groups, but I think they get a bit territorial as they get bigger.
I found this site which may help.Good luck and do post pics. exactly.gif

Thanks for all your wonderful ideas! The website was very helpful! I will show you pictures of the tank when it is finished. Here is a picture of my crayfish... he spent a couple of nights in my planted tropical aquarium but uprooted my java moss and cryptocornes (that's how he ended up getting his own tank biggrin.gif )

Wow, he's pretty big! A lot bigger than those little guys in our creek. Sounds like he's a pretty interesting character to have around. biggrin.gif

Oh wow, he's GORGEOUS!!!!!! You need to get some sort of memorobillia from Red Lobster and incorporate it into there, HAHAHA. Where did you get him? smile.gif
Kingyo
Thanks for your comments biggrin.gif Will post more pics soon!
Erika - I got my crayfish from a local petshop.

aww he's so pretty! heartpump.gif you should get some pics of him moving the gravel. We get crawfish holes in our yard, with their little dirt piles around it, but never get to see them doing it.
