Full Version: Keep Plants In Pots Or Not?

I'm sure this info is around here somewhere, but I cant find it! Simply put, what are the pros and cons of plants a potted plant stil IN the pot you bought it in or taking it OUT of the pot and planting it? I have gravel, which would be best? My plants are all right now still in the pots since I don't know which way is best.

I take mine out. Some plants are able to be broken apart and taking them out you can plant them in more then one location. Plus it just looks better if you plant your plants in your substrate/soil.

I prefered the potting method. It will be very easy to maintain the tank. I used to have a plant in the pot and was very easy to move around. Replanting can be done out of the tank, which you can take out both pot and plant from the tank and done outside. It's also a matter of preference when it comes to decor thought.

Hi Bob&Syd, I asked a similar question a little while ago specifically about potted Java Fern.

From what I can gather, generally speaking most plants do better removed from pots and depending on what they are can either be left floating, planted into the gravel or substrate or plants like Java Fern tied to bogwood, rocks or ornaments.

I think it depends on which specific plants you wanted as to what would more meet their needs.

There are lots of planty people on here who I'm sure will be able to give you some more advice smile.gif
