I think some plant disease is effecting my lacy tipped java fern sad.gif The leaves turn medium brown and then they get weird thin hair-like fuzzies around that part of the leaf. Its spreading quickly and I'm trying to contain it by checking several times a day and clipping any affected leaves. What's going on?

I tried a 7 minute KMnO4 dip yesterday, but there's already new stuff growing! I don't know what to do ._. Ashley, did your stuff spread to other types of plants? Maybe I'll move it to the plantless (and lightless) betta tank and hope it gets better in isolation. Even though I love my lacy java, I worked way to hard to fix up this planted tank.

Hello,

Its not a disease but an actual type of algae! Once it grows, it spreads like crazy and forms a thick layer (like a carpet). I recommend to place some small flying fox, they love munching of them, plecos do too, but dont recommend them with goldfish.

What algae are you thinking of? My tank is actually tropical, but its 10 gallons and I don't have room for more fish.

It killed my entire java fern within a week. Now I'm seeing it on segments of the anacharis, some smaller vals, and my swords. Everything was going so well sad.gif
