Please help, I keep goldfish in my garden pond and have just found that I have little one.s. Being told that I have to seperate them from the big fish I now have them in their own tank. Could someone please tell me why is it that they are all different sizes, I would have thought they would have all been the same!

There might be 2 batches of fry if the fish had been in pond for a long time. But I have that experience that the size could differ in the same batch to. My 6 one year fry still differs, 2 are bigger but the other 4 are now about the same size!

2 reasons: 1) some of the fish may have inherited a dominant/recessive gene causing them to grow faster for one reason or another.
2)i noticed this with my baby turtles. all are from the same hatch yet 1 of them is far larger than the rest, 2 are medium, and the other 3 are small. the anwer could even be as simple is who is getting the most food.
