Hello,
This is in regards to my oranda. He was real sick with parasites and fin rot. He is no longer darting around or scratching. His behavior has improved and happy to be eating again. I treated him with melafix and quick cure and he is still in his hospital tank. He lost a good 8-10 scales while he was sick, and I'm just wondering, will they grow back? or does the slime coat just grow over it? thank you for your help.

Yep they'll grow back, though it'll take some time and they may look a bit different than the other scales.
Are you done with treatment?

But it's kinda the same like use we get cut and when it heals
it's a litgher color

I'm not sure. I have him in a hospital tank and I'm still giving him melafix and quick cure. I think I'm going to stop with the quick cure today and continue on with the melafix for another week just to help his slime coat heal. I gave him a salt dip about a week ago and after that he stopped darting. So I think I got rid of the parasites by doing the combination. He's been quiet though today and last night. Just kind of sitting on the bottom of the tank. As soon as I drop food in he jumps right up though. How long is too long to medicate? It's been about 2 1/2 weeks. Water changes of 1/3 every other day in a filtered tank (no carbon). When will I know if he's ready to go back to the main tank? I don't want to chance any harm to him or possibly infect the others?

If he was in the main tank before, then chances are the main tank has already got whatever is afflicting this fish. If he was in the main tank, how are the others in that tank looking?
I'd stop with the melafix - it does more harm than good when parasites are involved. If you've been treating with QC for 2 weeks, then I'd stop with that, too - it's likely done all it's going to by now, and the meds in it can cause damage on their own. Sitting on the bottom is not a good sign, though, so we need to figure out why he's doing that. Do you know your water conditions (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH)?

the other fish in the main tank were suffering from some fin rot but I treated it with melafix for a few days and now they are all fine and healthy. I ended up changing their gravel and plants and stuff just to be on the safe side. I think I had a bacterial bloom, was cloudy. But now the tank is crystal clear and all the fish are vibrant and active, all levels fine. My sick oranda is still in his 2.5gal hospital tank. Ph was low so I just added ph up. There is some ammonia but I have been doing 1/3 water changes every day because hospital tank was uncycled. He almost looks like he's weighted down. He's trying to swim a little, but you can see he pushes up from the tank real hard with his fins but the second he stops he almost plops back down against his will. I've been fasting him for 2 days now and I'm going to give him peas tonite. Maybe he's constipated? or due to irregular swim bladder? Regardless I'm stopping all meds. Do you have any other idea what the syptoms might be?

Ph was low
How low?
Ammonia is more toxic at a higher pH, so don't raise it higher than you need to. Do you have another filter you can put on this tank and add a bit of media from your other tank?
It's hard to say what exactly is causing your fish's trouble until we can rule out poor water quality. What exactly is your ammonia level, tank temp. and pH? Is bottom sitting his only symptom? Are his fins clamped? Is he eating? How do your other fish seem? How long ago did you get this fish / how long since the last tank addition?

Ph was between 6.8 and 7.0 so I added a little ph up, I just wanted to make sure it wouldn't drop lower. There is a filter in this tank but no carbon because I was medicating. I rasised the tank temp to 80 degrees. Ammonia levels are at like 2ppm. All the other fish are great. This fish I've had for almost 2 years and I'd be real sad to see him go!!! His fins aren't clamped but he had quite a bit of fin rot. Now today he's spinning in quick tight circles again?!? and then he plops back to the bottom. I haven't introduced a new fish to the main tank in over 6 months. I don't know what else to do! please help!
