Hi all nice site you have here newfish.gif

Ok so my story then my question.

I have a 6x3x3 pond, had around 6 3inch fish in. Around 1 month ago i started having bad problems with fish getting ulcers (i have lost 3) and 1 is very sick think he will be going in frezzer soon sad to say.

This all started shorlty after breeding.

I did a water change last night and to my shock found i had some newcomers.
Around 10 yes 10 1 inch fish. I never spotted them because they are all black well sort of a vevlet purple.

My question is will they change colour ?
I did have 2 black/brown/white goldfish but sadly they died,But the female that was getting all the attention was a big goldie.

thx

Yes, they will change colour. Most of mine change from black to orange by the next summer, but some take longer. Some remain black and orange for a while, but gradually turn all orange.

After spawning the water can become rather degraded. Do you have test kits or can you get your water tested at a local fish store?

Yeah i got a test kit, test every 2 weeks i spent a fortune on meds and stuff when they started getting sick. The wife is over the moon with the new guys, Im not so happy its gonna get cramped in there and not sure what im going to do with them,
I thought it was hard to breed fish smile.gif

Well, as karma will have it - the ones who try like crazy to get some fry (me at times :rolleyes) might not see some, while others are covered in fry even though they didn't try to breed at all. My guess is you fall into the latter category... smile.gif

The water quality might have gone downhill after the breeding because there most likely were a ton more eggs which the adult goldfish ate. Basically more food for them then they usually have, so the water quality suffered. It is very hard at times to see those eggs in the pond, and when it happens in one of mine, I just don't feed them for a few days, since they have their "food" anyhow.
The water quality will get back to where it was, I just would do some extra water changes, and cut back on the feeding some. Those little fry will not starve - there is plenty of tiny little particles in the water, as well as algae on the wall, for them to eat.
