Hi I was observing my new red cap toay and I noticed some of his/hers scales were missing. Also she has a little split in her tail. Do you think I should medicate with melafix??
JessicaandMarshall
I wouldn't. Usually when my fish split a fin or tail, it takes about 24 hours for it to totally heal.

The scales take longer to grow back, but if you keep up on your water quality you should not need to use Melafix, just to heal a tail split and missing scales. biggrin.gif

You shouldn't medicate with anything until you figure out what the problem is. Your fish isn't losing scales and getting splits in his fins for no reason. So, any ideas on why this is happening? wink.gif What's your water quality like?
