just wondering would it be okay to put 2 or 3 female bettas in a 5gal tank? (my tank is heavly planted so there would be lots of hiding spaces)

I would not.
Females can be very aggressive and territorial. If you want to keep a group of females, your best chance is about 5 in a 10 gallon. A heiarchy doens't work well with less than that typically, and there is a good chance of agressive bullying. In a 5 gallon, there is not enough hiding places, space, or territory, so chance of conflict rises some more. 5 girls in a 10 gallon or 1 in your five gallon would do fine, but 2-3 in a 5 gallon will most likely end in trouble. You can try it if you really want to, but have back up aquariums for each of the girls because chances are it will be too much aggression.

ok thanks il try seaching for a 10 gal
BUT im still tempted to try it with the 5 gal because its extreamly over planted and most of the bettas i have owned havnt been to agressive and yes i do have enough back up tanks just in case but im going to try and control my self to hold of untill i get another 10 gallon tank but bettas are so adictive.

Kissy is correct. that many girls in a 5 gallon would be too much and there maybe a tendency for them to fight. one in a 5 gallon would be fine. I would only put two females in a ten gallon. The girls can be real little troublemakers sometimes. Sometimes they fight more than the males. If you just have 2 in a 10 gallon there would be less chance of them fighting over space.

The less you put into a tank, the more chance there is of them fighting. Its like malawi (and other) cichlids, you need a high number to even out agression.
I think some people have succeeded keeping just three or so before, but they were all sisters and always lived together.

I wouldn't do it. Thats not enough room for them to escape if being attacked. I keep 3 girls in a 10 gallon. You don't need them to be sisters or to be young. Just find calm females or just get what you want and hope for the best. I just threw mine together and left them. It sounds mean but I don't care. It worked and no one had sores, plus they are all fine living with each other now.
