Awaiting your expert comments on the kois wink.gif
My faves are the tri-colour one in the middle and the scaless kohaku under it.

I love Koi!! Omg they are huge, I love the silver one middle right and the full red and black same row. The black and white is a rare color combo, very nice...are these yours? or are they options to buy that you are looking at?
d_golem
Nah, not mine biggrin.gif They're from the Western Australia Koi Show recently and I'm just gonna ask a new member here (Forever-Mango) about their quality and stuff cos I'm a total newbie at koi and he seems to be an expert in koi showing wink.gif

Im only a newb too...started on Koi in Nov last year. I just happen to finish my schooling years, and now concentrating on my hobby. Im planning to breed Ochiba and Gin Ochibs...please see pics below this paragraph.

All these fish make me want a koi. Whats better, japanese or israeli? I used to have a jet black one but the red and black is gorgeous. So is the all silver though and the red and white blink.gif

Wow, Mango, those two are stunning! I like the normal Ochiba better - for me the Gin version always takes away from the gorgeous coloring. The shiny scales are a bit distracting to me.

As for Riz's pics, I like the Showa and Shiro Utsuri in the top row the best. I think the scaleless Kohaku's coloration is too concentrated on one side. If the red would continue on the other side of the dorsal fin, it would be a stunning 5 step - for my untrained eye anyhow.

OK lets begin.

The first is a Showa...little white...nice body shape. Although the head is a little short but its a nice fish.

Second is a Gin Platnium Ogon. Very nice shine, but the pectoral fins are sharp looking, minor defect, disliked by me. To me an Ogon must have nice metallic round pec fins.

Third is a Shiro Utsuri. A very nice specimen. Very dark Sumi but the Shiro (White) is a little pink, but fish in shows tend to stress, thus the pinkish in the white. In shows the Japanese judges dont really care about the stress cause its natural so it wont get marked down. The head patter is very nice IMHO.

Fourth, a Hi Utsuri (Red). Head pattern is nice but the body pattern isnt balanced. Its all over the place. Not my kind of koi if you ask. If the pattern was more even then it would look nice. The red is very rich.

Fifth, another showa. This time its a hard head, but all 3 colours (red, white and black) is very nice. A little too much black on the tail tube. But one nice fish I must say.

Sixth, a Gin Soragoi. Looks like a female, although the Gin isnt full, but wouldnt mind it as a breeder for my Ochiba project. I have a male very similar to it. The tail tube is very bulky so should end up as a jumbo fish. Hope to see it in the future.

Seventh, a Sanke I think, but looks like a showa. To me not a show fish, lack of black on the body, also too little red, but the white is very nice! Good for breeder but not show.

Second last, a Doitsu Metallic Kohaku, the red is very nice! Very nice metallic and very nice shiro. Pattern could be better if more red is even to the right side of the body. I wouldnt mind having that in my pond, because hardly anyone breeds Doitsu Kohakus.

Lastly a Kohaku. Why a Kohaku? Because you can see the little white on the side of the koi and towards the tail tube. I would say it could be a one step Kohaku, red is very nice, but too much red on the head. Not show fish. But could use to improve Kohaku lines with the red.

Easy question "which are better Japanese or Israli?" answer Japanese.

d_golem
Thank you very much, Mango smile.gif although I don't know the meaning of the Japanese names, but thx very very much for taking time commenting on the kois. The last kohaku pic was not taken from a show tub, so yup it's not a show fish.

What's the minimum length of a jumbo koi? The first six kois are humongous IMO, well over 60 cm long.
Forever-Mango
No problemz mate.

Jumbo...to me its from +80cm biggrin.gif
tropicana
they'are all cute! my dad has some great koi!
Forever-Mango
IMHO, both Koi and Goldfish are great pond fish.

Ofcoarse Japanese Koi are better...its the best in the world...! Koi was developed in Japan...and are still the best! Thats why Nishikigoi is one of the most prized fish in history!

The Koi are beautiful. I agree d_golem with your choice. My #1 is the tricolor in the middle.

Japanese Koi are really special. I was at the Portland Japanese Garden and the fish had been sent from Japan, a sister city thing I think. My favorite as this guy:

oh, sorry, I dont really know anything at all about koi except that I love them. and my favorite is the black and white! he's gorgeous! I love the colors!!!
Mariah
I like the last one you showed. He was pretty!

The fish in Oranda's picture (the white/yellow one) is a comet goldfish, not a koi. It has nice fins, though.
MaudlinBlithe
that is a comet? really? I never saw comets that pretty before. wow. I'm stunned. I know comets, or am I thinking of commons?

ugh. Now I'm confused? yes, definitely confused.

So a pretty comet like that woule only need 20 gallons in an inside tank? (preferably more though I know)
