my older betta sometimes flares at the newer ones and one of the newer ones does it sometimes to that one. but if i put a mirror up to them they dont do anything ill even put a clean one in the tank beside them and they just swim by them and act like nothing is bothering them. is something wrong with my bettas or are they just less agressive than other bettas. i hope nothing is wrong with them i love my little betta friends they are soo cute. any ideas of how to get them to do this if there is something wrong with them, what is it?

Some male bettas are just calmer than others. My husband has 2 males in a split tank so they would have companionship and flaring and one is very calm just swims all happily and the other one is so aggresive that he will attack even us. Just depends on individual temperate. Should be nothing wrong with him smile.gif

are your betas in sight of each other? if they are then they could just be used to other betas.

If they flare up when they see each other occasionally, but just don't when they see their own reflections in a mirror I wouldn't worry about it too much.

They obviously can can and do flare so they are "normal" Bettas in that way. I agree, some Bettas are much calmer and less aggressive than others. They all have slightly different personalities and temperaments.

If they appear generally happy in their environment (swimming about, eating etc.) then I don't think there is too much to be concerned about smile.gif

thanks they are all next to each other and can probably see each other most of the time so i guess maybe they are just used to other bettas.

I wouldn't worry about it too much either as long as they seem healthy in every other way. I only have two out of my 5 that flares, I can hold a mirror in their face for five minutes and they'll just look at me like you seriously don't think I'm gonna fall for that, do ya rolleyes.gif My Blaze sits on my desk and he flares at me all time, he's too funny, and when I pick up my ink pen to write something, he'll start flaring at my pen rolleyes.gif heartpump.gif

I agree with everybody else I wouldn't worry at all about the flaring. I have one guy that flares at my finger, or the wall, or nothing. I moved his tank the other day and he flared for an hour straight and then built me a bubble nest. I have another male that's really shy and only flares when he thinks nobody's looking. I have yet another guy that I couldn't get to flare no matter how hard I tried even when I put a girl next to him. He did build her a gigantic bubble nest though. My old guy hasn't flared in years he just lays around and acts like a crotchety old man. That's what makes bettas so great in my opinion. They all have great and unique personalities.

They are probably just fine. I had two males in a divided keeper one time and the veiltail male would always flare at the crowntail male, but the crowntail got to the point where he just would not flare anymore. Maybe that is the case whith your fish
