My only veiltail is sick, or so I think. Ever since I bought her she has had a very small lump on her left side, behind her pectoral fin. As she grew the lump grew but still looks the same because her body got bigger. I've pretty much ignored it, pretty sure it is a tumor or something along those lines. Well recently the scales closest to it have turned white. She doesn't act sick. I put in some Anti-Fungus just to make sure it wasn't body rot or something.I'll try to get pictures.

Any ideas on what it is and how I can treat it?

Is she a marble? Is it really external like some deranged colour cells that marbles sometimes have?
Sushi67
Shes not a marble or at least she hasn't been one for months. Besides it looks nasty so there is no way it is just her changing color.

Seee, it does not look normal. It looks 10 times worse in person.

She hasn't been attacked. She has a 2.5 gallon all to herself. Live plants. I change 10% of the water every 7-10 days.

There is a few things you could try:
you could gently lift the fish out of the tank and dab on some hydrogen peroxide. The problem with this is the location of the spot. It is very close to the fish's gills and you must not get the peroxide in the gills. So, I wouldn't probably try that.

You could also try Fungus Eliminator or Fungus Clear by Jungle (they are the same product, but one is a tablet and one is crystals). Fungus Eliminator would be my choice because it is the crystal form and it is the easiest to use in small tanks.

Also, do you have a filter on that tank?

I'd think it would be something bacterial...

Yes, Kissy, you are right. Fungus Eliminator and Fungus Clear are rather poorly named, since they treat both true fungus and bacterial infections. It is a good choice, since it treats both smile.gif

Ah, I see biggrin.gif

ok, so I need to buy meds to treat a bacterial infection? Hmmmm, I start school tomorrow so I don't know if I will be able to to but I do need to buy food for my fry soon so I hope I get stuff before she gets worse.

BTW- There is a filter in there. Shes in front of it in all the pictures.

You could try doing a larger water change of about 50%. I would age the water for a day or two, and use a good water conditioner.

What are the ingredients in the medication that you used?
