Hello, I have an apple snail ... not very old, only had him about 4 months ... Last week he begins to float for 3-4 days and the last 2-3 days he sunk to the bottom .... he was still moving his attena (weakly) on the first day but the last 2 days or so he's in the shell not moving anywhere .
Is he dead ? how do I find out ? My other snail is still good ...

How's your snail? I don't know much about snails but would recommend you quarantine him/her. Maybe if you check the Internet by typing out Apple-snails you may find a page dealing with their various habits and requirements.
Goodluck.

I heard of alot of things happening like this
he should be fine if he stays in there for more then 2 weeks then there
might be a problem

My snail often hids in his shell for days at a time, probably only coming out when I am asleep. I did have a snail die (he got sucked up into the filter). The floating worries me though... they shouldn't float consistently for that long. The easiest way to tell if its dead or not is to take it out of the tank and pull on the little hatchdoor, it should have gathered in its shell and closed the hatch the minute you touched it. If you pull on the little trapdoor and the snail tries to seal itself in or there is resistance, it is still alive. If it spills out, or is just lying there without its trapdoor sealed and not moving... then its dead.
Sorry if that is the case.
Cheers!

When an Apple snail dies, it loses a lot of mass and hangs out of its shell. It also smells very rank.
If it's in the shell and has no rank smell, it's fine. They do sometimes become very inactive if highly stressed (high ammonia, nitrites, etc.)

My snail did that too and I wasnt sure if he was dead or not. I put him in a bowl with some tank water and today I finally concluded that he is dead because of the bad smell. I have no idea why he died. Im sorry about your snail. Im not going to get another until I learn a little more about them but I wish you good luck with your other snail.

It's good that you are going to learn more before getting another JNic04. I wish everyone did that.
