My fantail has just completed 7 days of melafix for some split fins and seems to be doing better apart from a red spot at the end of his fin, no streaks just a small red area. The split fins have improved. Anyone had expereince using Melafix for more than 7 days or should I just stop now? I took the carbon out 7 days ago and the water was perfect when I checked it yesterday (nitrites=0, ammonia=0, nitrate very low) Should I do the water change and stop the melafix or do a water change and continue with the Melafix?

Rachael, Melafix is a very gentle and mild natural treatment, so you can safely use it beyond the 7-day treatment. You can go ahead with your water change, and then just add the Melafix back into the water. But remember, only for the amount of water that you took out. Lets say you removed 5 gl of water, you only need to add Melafix for those 5 gl.

And watch the red spot, in case it gets bigger.... smile.gif

Thank you.

What could the red spot be? It only appeared a couple of days ago and is just at the end of the fin. Fish is behaving normally.

It could be a minor infection. Hopefully the melafix will treat it.
