do i just puul it out? and is rubbing alchohol ok to put on it? i dont have peroxide. it is in my brothers old tank until it gets better then i will clean out our pond and put it in there. it is a shubunkin i still had to pay for it b/c they wouldnt give it to me but oh well anything you can tell me that would help would be great it is in a 10g for now but our pond is about 150g. my printer isnt working right now so i cant download any pics yet but i know it is anchor worm.
ilovefish
also should i salt the tank at 3% now or gradually bring it up to 3% and how much salt would that be a tablespoon?
ilovefish
i had to pull it uot with my own tweezers(the old ones we dont use anymore wouldnt grab ahold of it and it was so close to the gill. i am going to salt to .1%(i said 3% but i ment .3% or watever) any way ill add one teaspoon and then ill add the other 2 later. i hope he makes he is really cute im going to call him lucky b/c i saved him from an awful death.

i could still use any help you can give me.
glitterfish
You have to add 1 teaspoon PER gallon. I wouldnt put rubbing alcohol on the spot. I dont have any advice so Id wait until someone else helps out.
ilovefish
oh ok so 10 teaspoons than right? i knew i had something wrong
glitterfish
Correct. Dissolve it first before adding to the tank and dont dump it right on top of the fish.
ilovefish
i am disolving it in some warm tank water but i have to wait for it to cool first.
glitterfish
Good idea, dont want to burn the poor thing! smile.gif I add a little bit of water conditioner to the dissolved salt mixture before adding it to the tank too. Do you have any?
ilovefish
yes it was alredy in the tank but i added more to the cup too. will the salt help its frayed fins too? the fins are frayed but i dont see any fungus or anything yet he seems to be swimming ok (knock on wood) and he was eating when i saw him in wall-mart today so i guess that is a good sign he is constantly opening and closing his mouth but i have an oxygen thing in there. i hope he does ok. my dad is going to kill me not only b/c i bought a fish but also b/c i bought one that was sick he wouldnt be so mad if i got it for free but he is one of those people that thinks they are just fish(he is not as bod as some people but still)he does take care of them when i go on vacation so he doesnt totaly think they are worthless.
glitterfish
The best cure for frayed fins is pristine water but the salt should aid in healing too. Keep an eye on the water params. smile.gif
ilovefish
i will i gave him a salt dip as well to make sure there were no other parasites he responded to that really well his slime coat looked kind of fuzzy so i wanted to get the old one off still opening and closing his moth though i tried to give him some peas to get rid of all the wall-mart food but he didnt eat any(hopefully just not hungry since he was just eating at the store)
glitterfish
He is probably quite stressed out. I wouldnt feed him at all today. Try to give him some quiet time after you get the salt in.
ilovefish
i am going to cover the tank with a towel to keep light and noise out.
ilovefish
ok doing better(knock on wood) he is swimming well and he is no longer opening and closing his mouth constantly so that is good his fins are no longer clamped they are out like theya re supposed to be(they were clamped down to his body pefore besides his pectoral fins i forgot to mention that) i wont feed him tonight but ill see if he is hungry in the morning.

edit: my dad didnt even care about it(now i am confused)
ilovefish
still doing good ate this morning fins still shredded of coarse but other than that seems to be doing fine
glitterfish
His fins shouldnt be clamped. Thats usually a sign of parasites. Have you added the other doses of salt yet? That should help with that.
ilovefish
they arent anymore but they were at the store and shortly after i took the anchor worm off but now they are out not clamped and yea i put the rest of the salt in
Ranchugirl
Thats a very good sighn, Ashley!! thumbs.gif The shredded fins take longer to grow back, but your fishie has already improved quite a lot in his overall health. Its amazing how fast they jump back once you remove the parasite that is bugging them... smile.gif
ilovefish
yea ill wait until the fins grow back and if it isnt too cold yet i will put him in the pond when he is all better
BeancurdTurtle
Hey, it's really cool you saved the poor guy.
