As most of you know I've moved and have no pond sad.gif . I went to Twin Falls this past weekend to visit my fish and wow was I excited to see how they were doing. The water is crystal clear, even in the deep end which is about 4 1/2 feet deep. I could see everything in the bottom which includes some dirt that had blown into the pond. The fish are very healthy and happy and they looked like they've grown some. I was excited to see that my two year olds are now about 8 to 9 inches long. Two of them I believe are kumonryu, possibly beni kumonryu as they both look to have some red on their bellies. Of course they could be something else. I want them at my knew house SOOOOOOO bad. I guess this past weekend was motivation to get a pond started where I am now. I took a lot of pictures plus many videos, I'll be posting them when I get the time. I'm going to see if I can't download the videos on that site that Jomoko used, that'd be cool.

I just looked at the video from the site, not good quality sad.gif if the video comes up huge double click on it and you'll go the the you tube site and you can shrink it down so it's a little clearer. At least that worked for me. Still not as good as I hoped.

I'll upload some pictures, they're much better.

I moved to Idaho Falls, I was given a promotion and transfered. It is a nice place and the people here are a lot easier to get along with so I love it. Although I know I'm going to hate winter because from what I understand 40 below is a temperature that occurs at least once every winter cold.gif not looking forward to this.

They look great Scott!! You have some monsters in there. Too bad you had to move. sad.gif If you get a pond at your place are you going to move these koi to the new pond?

I thought the vid was really good. It must have left you with mixed emotions seeing them.
I too hope you get your own pond up and running and get them back.
Will you take them all or some of them?
Scott
Some of them will be moving, not all because I'm only planning on about 2,000 gallons. I don't want to get too big because of the size of the backyard and resale. I don't plan on living here for too long. Maybe 2 years at most. I love my new house just not excited about cold weather.

Wow Scott - they look so wonderfully healthy biggrin.gif

I've actually been waiting with bated breath for your new pond. I still to this day think your previous pond is one of the nicest i've ever seen and have always thought how much I would love one.

And -40 degrees ohmy.gif Hooey - that's nasty cold!

Scott
Jen thank you for the complement. It as a lot of work but worth it. That is one thing that I really enjoy, building and working on the pond. I miss it. I think I'm going to be getting some lumber really super cheap this weekend to start building a pump house. After that is up I want to get the pump and figure out how I'm going to filter the new one before I start digging. This time I want to make sure I get it right so I'm not ripping it apart again to redo some bone head idea LOL.

I'll get some good pictures up as soon as I can I have to get going.

Was that a calico butterfly? I wants! hehe
my father-in-law loves flowy tails so he only has butterfly koi, sarassa comets and bristol shubies in his pond.
Your fish are beautiful and hopefully you can get them to thier new home soon. Is someone living at your old place? or do you have someone fish sitting for you? Either way, very taken care of in your absence smile.gif

Scott, your fish look so lovely, really nice to see them all "in real life" biggrin.gif

you must have been really pleased to see them and the pond all in such great condition! Hopefully it won't be too long before you get to bring them to your new house! What will happen the fish with such cold temps at your new place? will you have to heat the pond at all?

I'll have to put a heater in the pond. I am wanting to build a pump house and put a wood stove in it. Put all the filtration in the pump house and keep it heated over winter. Plus put a stock heater in the pond. I think that may be enough, not sure though? But you'd think that if the water is coming into the pump house which is warm it'd do some warming of the water? I would like to get a pond built before winter but I'm not sure if that will happen that is a lot of work and with all the hours I work I don't know if I'll get it done. But if I can get it done I'll be able to run water all winter to see how it reacts without the fish. Sort of a test you know.

that would be great if you where able to run a test...it would be a lot less stressful than having the fish in and seeing how they go! yes i'd imagine the water should get a certain amount of heat from the pump house.

i'm thinking i might have to get some sort of temporary house to put over my new filter during the winter as it states in the operating instructions that it should not be run in temperatures below 8*C/46*F. tempatures here in northern ireland can be that or less most of the winter and i dread to think the state the pond would be in the spring if i had no filtration the whole winter.

i'm also considering a heater...i know temps here are tropical compared to what you are going to have, but i'm worried how my big comet will find it as he's been used to a tank with temps 18* in winter and they peaked at 29* during the heatwave we had a couple of months ago!

i say you should make a start when you do have time and even if you don't get it completed by winter then you'll be a step ahead of yourself come spring!
