Oh boy my poor fish, I feel so horrible cry3.gif I got this betta from my nephew a few months ago. He was a year and half old and never taken good care of and he had this tumor or some kind of growth on his face that hasn't stoped growing since I got him.

So last night I did my water changes, 100% 2 gal tank, and when I was putting him back in the tank, he jumped and fell into this basket I have with a bunch of junk in it so I had to dig him out and when I caught him he jumped and fell again. I caught him again and put him in the tank. When I looked at him I noticed that thing on his face busted. So I added a tsp of salt and some bettafix, which I read somewhere is a watered down melafix which is good for sores and such, right?

Well today this thing has gotten really gross looking, it has white stuff in it and now his eyes are all cloudy. So I need to know what I should do for him? Another thing, a chunk of it came off and he ate it ill.gif

Ouch that looks bad sad.gif
The white stuff must mean its infected, so I think you will need something stronger than bettafix. Its on his head too which makes it more dangerous to him.
I dont really know what to suggest, I hope someone can figure something out for him heartpump.gif sad.gif
And dont blame yourself, you werent to know he would jump 00001649.gif

Edit: hmm about him eating it, did he eat it before it got infected or after? maybe you should try him on some med food?

Thanks Lucy, yea he looks horrible poor baby cry3.gif

He ate it today, with the white stuff in it. That's why I mentioned it cause I figured it might have been infected sad.gif I have some jungle medicated food, so I will try that too

ohmy.gif Oh no, poor thing sad.gif

The trauma of the fall does seem to have made things worse, but it sounds like it was probably quite badly infected before. Don't blame yourself, it was an accident.

I agree with Lucy, I think you need to use something seriously stronger than Bettafix before it gets worse or he gets septic.

An antibiotic or really good antibacterial medication I would of thought. Not sure what to suggest for a Betta, but you guys have a great choice of stuff out there.

Also, keep the water quality perfect, probably daily/every other day water changes in that 2 gal.

Hopefully, someone can suggest something specific to use.

Best of luck with him 00001649.gif

I agree. You need to find something stronger to help him. I live by this one stuff. Its called Bio bandage. Its for wounds and open sores on the outside of fish. Its power but it turns to gel as soon as its wet. Its medicate and sticks over the sore to help it heal. You could try that along with other meds.

Good luck with your little fishy.

Poor little guy sad.gif I've never seen anything like that, but I agree that whatever the growth was now has an infection. Everyone's given great advice, and I hope he feels better soon.

Thanks everyone, most of the white stuff seems to be gone now. but he's still a mess poor baby, it's just all red now and his eyes are still hazy. He seems to be alright otherwise, he still swims and eats so hopefully the meds will do the job and he'll be ok.

Sounds like a good sign, let hope it heals over before it gets infected again heartpump.gif

I'm glad he is a bit better now. Now that the white stuff has gone, give the medication time to kick in and keep the water lovely and hopefully he'll start to heal up smile.gif

How is your Betta doing now Kristysweets? Is he healing up OK? smile.gif
