Hi, I currently have a 20 Gallon Glass aquarium from Hagen w/a Fluval canister filter but I am planning on getting a 60 Gallon instead to house my fancies and the 2 Commons I will be getting soon. The Commons are still little, around 2-3 inches. Although I know that commons should be in a pond, I am taking them in b/c the family who has them do not really care about them and I told my friend, who cannot take them w/her that I will take care of them.

Anyway, I want to get an acrylic, 60-65 gallon tank to house all 4 but I am having trouble deciding which company is best. I read a lot about SeaClear but there is no info. on whether you can add other filters to the tank such as canister filters. I just thought I'd ask what you've had most success with.

thanks

Most tanks are capable of supporting HOB filters and cannister filters..... It matters little which you have. In the case of the "larger" tanks - like a 6o gallon tank, you will need a combination of filters to cover the tank anyway, so consider getting a cannister (fantasitic for biological filteration - the real workhorses of the tank) and one or two HOB filters - (great with mechanical filteration).

As with all filters I like to spread the intakes to different sections of the tank - so you have most intakes at the bottom of the tank, but either end and maybe in the middle, too.

Most tanks are nearly the same. I do not have any acrylic tanks - I guess I just prefer glass, myself, but I have heard that many really like them. They definately solve some of the weight difficulties inherant in a glass tank! I have to bribe neighborhood boys to help me move my tanks around!

I think that if you are going to be houseing commons, you may wish to look for a tank that has more length and less height, giving you the 60 gallons in swimming distance as opposed to depth. I have a beautiful breeder 58 that is more deep than long - but I got it for a very large, high finned fish that wanted more depth than length. (Also more width for turning around - 18 inches wide as opposed to the 12 inches normally found)

Get the measurements....(Oh, poo, I used to have a link to all the different sizes and measurements of available tanks.... but it is not working this morning! sad.gif ) that you think you would want and go from there.

Thank you Daryl, I was looking into getting SeaClear System 2 rectangular 65 gallon since it comes w/a wet/dry filter already installed in the back. I still have two canister filters and I am looking into getting another filter, such as the HOB filters you suggested. smile.gif

It is 48" L x 15"W x 20" H, is this ok?
