i got a rubbernose pleco the other day and last night after i fed my gf i always check to make sure everyone is there and he wasnt krazy.gif i looked everywhere picked up everything in the tank to look under it i looked all around the tank outside but he wasnt on the floor is it possible that he could have died and the 2 small orandas(less than 2 inches) and my nickle(sp?) sized apple snail could have eaten him bones and all? he was there the night before and the goldfish ate really well that morning and in the afternoon they gobbled up the peas i gave them and in the evening before i looked for him they ate really well too so they didint act like they had a pleco meal? i have checked everywhere even in the filter. iheard they could go under gravel and i kindof moved mine around to see but nothing came out and he is pretty small(only about 2 1/2 inches) and my stones are pretty big so i wouldnt think he would be able to get under them. did any one have a similer problem where they eventually found them?
and could the snail and gf have eaten him?

I suppose its possible that the other fish could have eaten him..
Do you have a cat or dog that, if he jumped out the tank, could have taken him somewhere else? some people on here have had Dojos jump and found them in other rooms where the dog had taken them.

I hope you find him sad.gif

There is the possibility that your fish may have eaten it especially if he was small.I had a dolphin shark once that ate a whole algae eater and it still ate its food. However it died as a result of eating the algae eater.

my door was closed so the dogs couldnt get in there would the gf be able to eat the bones too? because i didnt see any of those in there.

First of all, check your filter.Bristlenoses, and other Pleco's are known for showing up in filter's and such. It's gotten to the point where I have to take apart my filter weekly to get at least 10 or so out.The first time I realized this,I found 37 baby Bristlenose in the filter, and all were alive and well. Thud.gif
Secondly,do you have any openings on your tank lid,and have you checked around your floor in the tank area?I have also found and realized that when I keep my water level real high, that this has happened to me on occasion. krazy.gif
Third,I once bought 2 Baby Rubberlip Pleco's that were about an inch and a half-maybe two at the most.I decided to keep them with what I considered my "small" goldies. As soon as I added the Rubberlips to the tank, the nearst Goldie took a bite out of one thinking it was food. Even then I thought it would be okay.I had hidey holes and plants for them, and I thought the goldies would be okay.Well they weren't.One was gone by morning, and the first one soon died after the goldie tried to eat him.To goldies, they really can't tell what is food for them and what is not. They just see it and try to eat it. blink.gif

Glad you found it ilovefish. I can't wait to hear where it was. I was gonna suggest getting an algae wafer and dropping it in the tank. All the plecos I know of would come running out of any hiding spot for one of those wink.gif

ok im back well i was looking inside this coral looking thing that bubbles come out of this morning (figured i would look one more time before i gave up) any way it is hollow and i thought maybe i overlooked him being in there while i was looking i thought i saw him out of the corner of my eye well i must have scared him b/c all of a sudden he was gone. i thought was i seeing things? crazy.gif then i looked in his favorate spot to make sure and sure enough he was behind the filter. i checked everywhere last night heres a list:

first behind the filter where he usually is when i realized he was missing i was hopeing he was in the hidey hole i made for him but no luck there so i looked on the floor around the tank behind the tank in the basket beside the tank but no luck then i looked in the filter but he wasnt there either i tried looking inside the coral then under everything in the tank in the filter i even took everything out i had already checked in and under and put my finger in the gravel and moved it all around(thinking if he was under or even on the gravel i would scare him up) throughout the whole tank put it all back in the tank looked around on the floor again i had to use a flash light in and around the tank b?c i dont have a light in the tank and my room is not that well lit at night.i have noooo idea where he was that was just last night. i found him in the morning (it was like 2 in the morning so maybe i was just really tired and didint see him but usually that would be the mistake i would make in the morning b/c i am NOT a morning person yawn.gif as you can probably tell because i was up at 2) well i guess i will never know exactly where he was.

oh and the entire thing is a hole b/c i dont have a lid. but i keep about 3 inches at the top for my snail(which he never seems to use) i am also afraid he will get out some day b/c he has climbed up the air tube a couple times and i had to pry him off b/c i thought he might get out but he hasnt yet he wont even go out of the water which i have heard is a good thing b/c that means you have a well oxygenated tank)
