I was so excited, last night, right before I went to bed, I tried to take some pics of Chauncey and he started displaying his fins and everything, which is not too uncommon for him. But then he ACTUALLY flared at me, full board, with the gill covers and everything! I have never seen him do that! I have seen other bettas do it but it was kinda cool...lol, you guys are probably laughing at me being so excited!

When he was flaring at me I tried to show Craig but he didn't come in fast enough so I got out a mirror to see if he would do it again and it worked! I have never been able to get him to flare at the mirror either. He just built his biggest bubblenest ever so maybe he is in breeding mode or something?

Anyway, I was pretty excited to see him do that and had to share! I'm a proud mama

Your betta has a great name Jen It's always nice to be flared at, they look so cute trying to be all big and tough

My boys sometimes flare for me too. It makes me so happy when they do. It makes me even more happy when my girls do it.

That is wonderful Jen. I have only seen Ginseng do it like that once. I was sitting next to him watching t.v. and I just happened to look over and saw him flared to the hilt, beard fully extended and all. I did not know they could make their beard so big. Did you get some pics of him flaring Jen? that would be cool.Maybe he was flaring at the flash. Pretty neat . and he does have a great name

Jen, I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at your betta! I can't help but feel that he was putting it off on purpose, just to be difficult! Its good to see that stubborn guy come around lol. Next time get out your crappy phone camera and get us some pics!

i had my old betta for quite a few months and when i got my new ones he did not like that everytime the new one would swim by his bowl on the side his bowl is on he would race over even is he was on the other side to flare at the other betta and that one would just ignore him which i think made him even more mad hehe

Yeah,a Bubble nest!!! I remember my first Betta's and that excitement of when they started building.It made me feel really good,like I was doing everything right and he was totally happy, Jen we love all pics,even the crappy ones like Kissy said.Show us some more pics of Chauncey!

I try to take pictures of him but because of his small tank and being in the kitchen even with the nice camera the pictures are terrible. I did run for the camera first but got fed up trying to get a good pic and gave up. I will try and move him into the living room by the window for a day or something and take some nice pictures for y'all.

He is a runty little guy though...his fins are kinda raggedy-he has been that way since I got him-but HE thinks he is the bee's knees so I guess that is all that matters! :-)
