I am switching between 2 kinds of food off and on, the first kind I gave my babies was Tetrafin goldfish crisps and I started alternation that with nutrafin max goldfish color enhancing pellets, but since using the pellets Ive noticed air bubbles in thier poop, is that caused by the floating pellets, which I notice they gulp alot of air when they scoop up the pellets. With the crisps its more like they suck the bottom of the flake to drag it under so no air contact and no air bubbles. The babies are 2 month old comets and are little piggies which eat all the food within a minute of feeding, lol so maybe they are just eating too fast?
I heard that ill fish can have air bubbles, but they dont act strange, arent swimming wierd or anything like that, I am just wondering if I should stop feeding the pellets to see if thats the cause. They also get a treat once a day of algae tabs that is SUPPOSED to be for my catfish, but they are piggies, hehe

Soak your pellets and flakes before giving them. Put aside a clean small container of some kind and soak the flakes for a minute or so and the pellets about 3 minutes in some of the tank water in the container before feeding them. This allows to food to soak up some of the water before the fish eat it . If you feed unsoaked pellets the goldies will get it in their gi tract and it will starting soaking up water in them causing gas to be produced by the swim bladder and posibly resulting in swim bladder disease( a nasty thing) If you presoak the food it helps lessen the chances of gas being produced and swim bladder disease

Try pre-soaking all food with a little tank water before feeding, particularly pellets.

This helps to remove any residual compacted air. It will also make the food softer to eat and easier to digest and help to prevent constipation and swimbladder problems occuring.

Generally speaking, sinking pellets are better than floating ones. If you pre-soak the floating pellets before feeding, they should then sink quite quickly. When goldies feed from the water surface they also swallow some surface air, as well as any air in the food, so sinking food is preferable. Hope this helps smile.gif
