My friend has been keeping goldfishes for a while now and he just had a silly idea one night and started feeding RAW GROUND BEEF to his goldies. At first I got scared, but he told me that the fish loved it. He's been doing it for a couple of weeks now and he keeps on telling me to try it out on my fish. biggrin.gif My only problem is that his fish might turn into wild freaky carnivors laugh.gif

Raw beef isn't good for goldfish. They can develop fatty liver disease. Some people feed beef to oscars and other carnivorous fish, but I don't think it's appropriate for them either. No fish in the history of fish have ever had cow on the menu as part of their diet. blink.gif smile.gif

its interesting that they like it, and i expect it's good a good source of iron and protein but most people do not feed meat to fish as it is very high in fat and fat is very bad for fish and can make them ill.
The best way to give protein to fish is through insects (such as bloodworm) and iron/vitamins/fibre from fresh green vegetables.

Besides the facts that Erika told you.Raw beef can carry intestinal parasites which can make them really ill which in turn causes vitamin deficiences which then can result in hole in the head disease.

Yup Blue and Erika are correct. And whatever you do do not get the idea to feed them raw pork. That would be very badk news. Raw pork has trichamonis in it

Wow! That's very surprising. Will tell that to my friend ASAP so he'll try to stop feeding them raw beef. Thanks smile.gif

Also I'd think that meat would make for water issues- the grease of meat - put some in a cup of water and see the cloud- would do something bad to the pH balance I am sure.
