How long can a goldfish stand a concentration of 0.1% of salt in its tank? And how long would that take to treat a parasite?

There are many people who keep there tanks constantly at .1% salt. It will not harm the fish.
If you are sure it is parasites, a 0.3 % solution of salt can be added and will be an effective remedy for
the chilodonella,costia and epistylis parasites.

Is it possible you can give us details about your fish and their set up. The box above is a guide.

Yeah, .1% is generally considered safe to leave all the time but it won't do much for parasites. You need .3% and or salt dips to get rid of those.

Uh....im not really sure that there is a parasite. Its fins were just clamped alot while swimming like my past goldfish had done right before they got sick. Its been a few hours since i've added the salt and it seems to be doing great now.

Leave it at .1% for a week then and see if other symptoms develop. you can post back if they do

Hopefully he will be okay now with regular water changes and the salt.

Are you testing the water params? If so,what are the readings?Salt may seem to be helping them now,but you really need to look into why they were acting that way to begin with, and fix that.

Ok so what happens when you do a waterchange? Do you add more salt? I'm testing the water params as im typing. I'll leave it at the concentration for a week.

OK.
Yes you have to replace the salt when you take out old water and replace new. For a 10 gallon you'd be adding 10 level teaspoons of
aquarium/rock salt (NOT , never table salt) and if you do a 50% w/c
you'd need to add 5 teaspoons in with the new water. Make sure it's mixed well before adding. Every time you do a w/c you have to add back the salt you took out - keep a record on a piece of paper by the tank- it helps U keep track..

As Devs said if there is any sign of clamped fins/unusual behavior etc, be sure to post back as .1% salt wont fix those issues. Good luck
