Ginseng has this habit of only eating his pellets when they start to sink. Which is a problem, cause he misses half of them and they end up in the glass marbles in the bottom of the vase decaying. When I first got him I tried many foods and he did not eat . The only food I could get him to eat was Hbh betta bites which do not float but sink. Do you think if I tried Hikori Bio Betta gold and Freeze dried Blood worm again and that is all I give him , that he will eventually eat them? I much rather he at the floating kind so they won't sink and mess up his vase. Is he just weird or do other bettas do this and how do you cope with it?

Someone suggested to me that Hikori Baby Chiclid Food might be good for bettas as well. Has anyone tried this?

i think if you put the freeze dried bloodworms on the water surface he would eventually eat it when he gets hungry enopugh i have never had this problem before my bettas usually circle the food and then viciously(sp?) "attack" the bloodworms but i think he will probably eat when he gets hungry.

I think fish are like any animal. Once they get hungry enough they will eat. I dunno if it wil work though. All my betta eat Hikari pellets, bloodworms, and brine shrimp.

I might try another type floating pellet liek hikori or the baby chiclid ones. I think you are probably right he will eventually eat when he gets hungry. He did not eat for an entire week when I first got him. Picky little dude

You could always try chopping a prawn into small peices but not small enough to fall apart then gently hold it at waters surface and see if he takes any.My male tends to bottom feed occaisionally but then it depends if its his fave food if it is I have to watch my fingers as he will eat straight from my hand like my little girl. The other thing I do to keep him of the bottom is place his food on the leaf of one of the fake plants he hangs around most and he eats of it.

Ginseng does that too. He won't eat it unless it is placed on one particular leaf of his bamboo plant. I have to take a drinking straw and hover it over the leaf as I place pellets in the top of it.In fact when I turn the light on in the morning he swims over to the leaf and if there is no food on there he looks at me with a staring look as if to say "Where's the Food Mom!" The only problem with that is he knock some of it off the leaf when he goes for it. Oh Well he just special I guess. I love him anyway.

Could just be a guy thing my little girl only eats from the surface or hand.
