I have a fluval 2 plus running on my tank, And when ever i do a water change and the pumps of when i turn the power back on the socket the filter doesnt work untill i remove the filter part way out of the water and then it starts to fire back up again and lets the water flow out, Iv'e tried rinsing the media inside the cartridges and then after its been running and i do another water change after a few days as i like to keep my water clean and helthy it stops working again when i turn the filter of at the socket i have to lift it part way out again untill it starts working.

This is really frustrating and i would like to know why my filter keeps doing this when i leave of when doing water changes?, Hope someone can help with this frustrating filter problem

thanks....

Have you cleaned the impellor out? Other than that it sounds like a loose wire inside. Hope some one can solve this for you.

If i clean the inpeller my cycle will get an outbreak or am i incorrect?, And it seems to start working as some of the water drips out the filter i dont think any wire is loose ive check for loose wires there doesnt seem to be a problem ?

Is there anything i could do to fix this problem ??

It does sound like an impeller problem. Cleaning the impeller off won't affect your cycle, as the cycle bacteria are held in the filter media, in the case of the Fluavl 2 plus, the two sponges.

As with any filter maintenance, the key is not to have the filter turned off for too long or allow the filter media to dry out. You don't want the beneficial bacteria living on the sponges to be without oxygenated waste water for too long.

Try removing the impeller from the impeller well, it is held in place by it's magnet casing, and give it a good rinse off - you can use tap water for that bit if you like or used tank water if you prefer. Check there is no gunge blocking up the impeller well, you can use a cotton wool bud to scoop any out. Also check the outflow or the venturi device thing (if being used) are not gunged up.

I used to have Fluval 2 Plus as well and I used to get a similar problem, in that after turning off and cleaning and then turning back on again, the water was very slow to get going again.

I think it's just part of the Fluval design really.

I found just tinkering with the flow adjuster and the yellow blockage indicater would sometimes help.

That yellow blockage indicater works on a kind of vacum that is created under the water, make sure it resets itself after you plug the filter back in, if it doesn't pull it up manually. Also when you do your filter maintenace make sure there is no gunge blocking the flow adjuster slider on the inside of the filter casing.

Hope this helps a bit smile.gif
