I did something really stupid today. I fed my goldfish microwaved peas without first refrigerating them and peeling off the hard skin, I gave them 2 peas which I broke apart, they ate them and then started choking. Now my fish are sitting at the bottom of the pool constantly protracting and detracting their jaws as if trying to get water to push down the vegetable matter. I fear my fish will hate me now and never eat the peas I give them again, or even die as the result of degistive problems. This was entirely my fault.

They should be OK. They do have a plate of "teeth" in their throats, so they should be able to cope with the peas and skin.

How are they now?

Thanks for replying, they seem to be doing fine now. After seeing them swim actively again I feed them some goldfish pillets and they devoured them greedily.

I have to be careful giving them home food because my 20 gal tank is already overstocked with fish in it, any extra pollutants will put a strain on the filter. I put a dose of cycle in the water every week, and have a bio and a carbon filter running. Hopefully they can still live healthy and happy in the tank.

Great, glad that they are OK. I guess they were just chewing their peas biggrin.gif

I never feed my fish food meant for humans though. I just give em flake food and brine shrimp
