Can I just use regular Prime when I change the water in the Betta tank? I had used Betta Basics when I set up the tank, but it was only a very small bottle. I saw at the pet store that they have their own products, but I was wondering if regular old Prime would be OK to use.

I dont see why it wouldnt be okay. I use it for my bgettas water all the time.

Thanks. I'm new to Bettas and I wanted to make sure I'm treating my guy OK. He is doing so well.

Yep, totally fine. Make sure you dose it correctly though..... Prime is so concentrated, and with most betta tanks being on the small side, you'll only need a tiny amount. One capful treats 50 gallons, so I alway "divide" my cap mentally into 10 gallon increments.

Prime is great! In my opinion its the best dechlorinator out there, and it will detoxify ammonia and nitrites too. The small bottles would be better suited for a betta tank. The dosage would be 2 drops per gallon smile.gif

does prime get rid of ammonia? is this right? unlock ammolock, I had terrible results with that. ammolock was giving me false readings on my ammonia tests. does prime cover up the test results?? thanx

Prime is wonderful for your fish. that is all I will use. The proper dose is 2 drops per gallon of water. It does not remove the amonia, nitrite, nitrate but detoxifies it. And yes amonia will still show up on your test strip but the prime will have detoxified it

sorry for so many questions, then if you will still test for ammonia from your test, then how will you know for sure that you don't have ammonia, am just trying to understand

The prime does not get rid of the amonia it just detoxifies it so it more easily converted into nitrite and then nitrate if I am not mistaken. The only good way to rid your water of amonia is by doing a water change

On the right track wink.gif Prime converts ammonia into a non-toxic form. Its still there, and if you're cycling with a filter it will not hinder the cycling process (unlike zeo-lite). Prime is great to dose inbetween waterchanges if you don't have time, but it is never a substitute for waterchanges. Only a syphon can suck up the waste in the gravel.
