help my fish are not well, thay are clamping their fins and sitting in corners of the tank, and my comet has a slight anmmonia burn!
i have tested the water and my results are:
ammonia-2.5
PH-7.8
nitrite-0.0
are these results ok?
my fish were ok yesterday, but today i noticed my fantail clamping his fins and sitting in a corner, my comet is the same and has a slight ammonia burn that was not there yesterday, and one of my moors are clamping his fins.
could this be the water?
the rest of the fish are fine but i am not sure what the problem is and am worried they might die if i don't sort it out soon
does anybody have any hints for me?

I suggest you do an immediate 50% water change and do daily water changes to get levels down as you need to be as close to zero as possible.Zero being prefered ammonia level. Also use a water conditioners to treat the water especially one which will convert ammonia and nitrite to nitrate.Besides one for chlorine and chloramines.
Products to use for example King British Safe Water and Safe Guard or Nutrafin Cycle

Since your tank is apparently not cycled, you will need to change out the water every day. You are striving to keep the ammonia to about 0.5ppm. I prefer 0.25ppm. change out whatever amount of water you need to change to keep it at that reading or less, as often as needed to keep it there.....
Have you read this?
http://www.kokosgoldfish.com/cycle.htmlAs your tank is cycling, do not be afraid of changing out your water. A water change is what is protecting your fish from harm..... and a stressed fish is subject to all kinds of problems, from parasites to disease.
The State-side additives along the same line are Prime or Amquel+. These products bind the ammonia into a non-toxic molecule, leaving the ammonia available for the beneficial bacteria to peel it off and process it....

i have so far got the worst of the problem out of the way, my ammonia level is now 0.
but one of my moors is still not looking well, he has split fins and is hanging near the surface, he also appears to be bloated and fatter then usualy.
the rest of the fish are fine but my moor is showing no signs of improvement.
i don't have a nitrate or phosphate test kit.
does anybody know what this could be?
any help would be greatly appreciated

previously i was having big problems with my tank when the ammonia level shot up, so far 4 fish have died but there is still a problem
i think it must be the water, but i don't know whats wrong with it:
PH- 7.5
nitrite-0.0
ammonia-0.0
i don't have a nitrate or phosphate test kit, it may be this thats the problem.
i am certain that his ripped fins are due to the water, and i am sure its not swimbladder.
there are no bloody streaks in his fins and no plastic plants in the tank, the only ornaments are a piece or bog wood and an ornamental pottery vase.
i think his scales are sticking out a bit, and today he is swimming abnormaly, he finds it hard to swin straight and is just hangin on his side it the tank. before he was just sitting in a corner of the tank.
i have put him in a breeding container (in the same tank) to keep out the current as he was just floating around the tank.
he seems to be getting worse
any advice would be greatlyappreciated

How many gallons does the tank hold? Bacterial problems can mount up and not show on test kits and it sounds bacterial to me.
Which filter are you using and how do you clean it out and how often?
How much and how often are you doing water changes with gravel vac?
For now I would up the temperature slowly to around 30c and do lots of water changes. Start by doing 60% and then 40% each day.
As he is starting to show symptoms of dropsy then you will need to get some epsom salt, you can find this at a chemist or health food shop.
Send me an email at bobsandy@globalnet.co.uk for more info.

Hi mary-ann, I have merged your other post with this one to try and keep all the information together. It's less confusing this way

altogether i have 5 fish in a 22 gallon tank, i have a clear jet 2 internal power filter, i clean it when the bubbles stop coming out (every 2-3 weeks), i clean it using water from the goldfish tank.
recently i have been vacuming the tank (and doing water changes) every day, i take out about 10-20 % of the water every day, when the problem was realy bad i changed 50% every day.
i have aquarium salt, should i put this in the tank?
at the moment one of my moors is sick, and now the other is starting to look bad, he is hanging around the corner of the tank.
i am worried the problem will spread to my other goldfish.
i havn't got a clue what the problem is and what to do about it.
any advice would be greatly apreciated.
thank you

With a fish with dropsy do not add aquarium salt it will make him worse as his body will absorb the salt.Do as Sandy says add epsom salt.If you have anyway of quarantining your sick fish I suggest you do so.

Could you provide the results of the tests asked for in the white box? Thanks this will help us to help you.
Since you are way overstocked chances are that water isn't very good and is causing problems. There is where to start.
I am conserned as well with cleaning the filter. That is where all the good bio bugs live, if you clean it too much you could be wrecking havoc with your cycle.

PH-7.5
ammonia-0.0
nitrite-0.0
i clean my filter every time it needs it, whenever the bubbles coming out of the filter start getting thin.
i added epsom salt to the container my sick fish was in, but later i put in a medicine to get rid of fungus as he had fungus around his eye.
does this mean anything?
is he getting better?

No, unfortunately it doesn't mean that

Can you post back exactly what you're seeing as of today?
Also, would you be able to outline the treatments so far?
Do you have him separated still?
When you clean the filter, do you just rinse the media in old tank water? Or do you run it under a tap?
Please post back soon

my moor is still alive and seems to be doing ok, yes he is separated from the others (the rest of the fish don't seem to be infected) and i have added epsom salt to his container, (i moved him into a separate container out of the tank) it seems to be working but i have to change the water very day, i am still feeding small amounts of food but had to add a medicine to get rid of fungus as there was some growing on the side of his body, its mostly gone now, but he seems to be recovering (i try not to mix the salt and medicine together).
when i clean the filter sponge i clean it in a container of water from the aquarium.

he is doing ok, he is swiming upright now and is looking a lot better.
i am using a medicine called FC+ for the fungus treatment, its working well but i try not to mix the medicines. i am keeping him in a big red plastic box, he has plenty of space in there and is lookin better, (still eating, good news)

Hi mary-ann, that's good news. Are you watching the water in the box? Without filtration, it will go off quickly...
Please keep us posted on his progress
