Hey Bloggs

Welcome to Koko's smile.gif

A new fish tank can take up to 7 weeks to be fully cycled. How many gallons is your tank?

You should do a water change every week about 25%.

Have you read most posts about cycling? if not i can give you a few smile.gif

hi thanks for reply. my tank is 47 gallons. i know it would of been ideal just putting one fish in to cycle tank but had very poorly fish and thats how i discovered kokos site. i had 4 goldfish in a 5 gallon tank for just over a year and lost one. i have read the link about cycling and i just cant understand why i have no nitites and im on day 23?

smile.gif Hi bloggs,and welcome. Patience Dear,Patience. laugh.gif
Cycling fish tanks can take around 4-6 weeks(or sometimes longer) depending on all sorts of different factors.
unsure.gif I just noticed that you said your Nitrates were 5.If you're having Nitrates, then apparently your tank has cycled. The thing now is that Ammonia/Nitrites should now be reading zero, and if they're not, then bigger water changes need done to improve on that and get them to zero. smile.gif
Can you clear those number's up for me,just so we are on the same page. Are you having actual Nitrate readings? unsure.gif

hi sharon thanks i have just done all the tests to be sure ammonia is 0-0.25 cant decide which one nitrite is 0 nitrate is 5 and ph about 8.2. am just about to do a 25% water change to bring down the amm just to be safe. so have i cycled do you think i forgot to say b4 it is a second hand tank but i put in all new media so treated it as a new tank. wink.gif

Have you ever just tested your tap water to see if there are any readings allready in it for ammonia/Nitrites/Nitrates?Just wondering...Have you actually had a Nitrite #?If not,it is odd that you've not seen Nitrite at all because it is part of the process. unsure.gif

Hey! It took over 3 weeks for my nitrites to hit - see my topic called
'It will never cycle'.

This cycle thing is a test of patience I think!!!! dry.gif
