this is kind of hard to tell you guys the nitrate or nitrite levels or the water quality since im not in the country. but hearing from my parents, the goldfish are all missing eyes on the left eye. is this sort of a disease or other fish are attacking other fish?

oh..also, the water is really murky in the pond. it does have a filter but i dont know the gph for it. its an outside pond custom built to match the house.

Sounds kind of strange? I can't understand why all the fish would be missing the same eye? Could they actually have clowdy eyes? Like a white film over them? If that is the case I think (can't remember) that is caused by dirty water. Need to get out some books. But in the meantime ask them if these fish are literally missing the eye or if they look closely they see it under a film of white. If they are missing the same eye I have no idea what would cause this. The white film can be very thick and make it look like the fish has lost the eye. I did have a fish that had this problem in one eye. I hate to say it but I neglected the poor thing and had it in a tank over winter. I did water changes and everything I could to keep the tank good but it really wasn't enough room. Anyhow to make a long story short I put the fish in the pond in the spring up'd the salt to around 6% and withen a couple of weeks the eye was back. This fish most likely would have died if I hadn't got him out, in fact he didn't even eat for the first week out in the pond. Now he's doing great.

i have to ask my parents again to see if their eyes are cloudy or not.
is it possible that they are killing each other and taking each other eyes out? or its a disease?

I've never heard of fish killing each other? I think it most likely is cloudy eyes

They could be eating eatchother's eyes. Crowded or hungry fish will often do this. There could also be something else living in the pond that's doing it such as some kind of aquatic insect. As for it all being the left eyes, that's very odd.

Any pleco's in the pond? And yes, even with cloudy eye aka white eye, it would seem just a bit too odd to all be on one side. More information here would be invaluable. Net some of them and make a closer inspection.

I am just taking a guess here, but could it be a bird ?

Could be a bird but if it were I would suspect there would be other marks on the fish and some of the fish would be dead or have massive body wounds.

Not to mention that a bird wouldn't selectively go for just all the right eyes, or just all the left eyes. Kind of weird...

it sure is weird! my mom said theres a hole in the socket....like its missing, so i dont think its white eye. maybe water, maybe some sort if bacterial...theres really no way for me to test the water or anything...just hope that the water would clear up and get better along the way.

I have no idea what is going one with those fish. Maybe this would be a good question to take over to koivet.com? If you do please let us know what they say. Maybe a good picture would help as well, can you get one of the fish out and put it in a bucket for a picture?

sure enough that fish is missing an eye. That is odd that they all are missing an eye. I have no idea why? Cute little guy though. It's sounds like a mystery to me?

oh..havent updated this for a while...just talk to my mom and she said that the fish are happier than ever. one died for some reason...she told me it was still pooping when it died =P everything else is a-okay. water is crystal clear now with the help of UV light. she also told me they are getting 6 HUGE goldfish. i do mean HUGE! some lionheads and orands. they are larger than an average size palm. you could grab the fish by the body, but the fins are still hanging out of your hand.
cant wait to go back home and look at the new goldies. stay tune for pictures!

no idea how big the "pond" is. i guess i could measure but theres a bow front so it would only be good for estimate, ill try and get more pictures in the morning.
my parents got there fish at a fish farm. my dad knows the owner cuz he always sends his koi fish there so they could be let free in the "wild" and fatten up. more pictures to come
