hello there. my fantail has a red spot appear on his right gill. it looks like a little blood blister (ever hit a finger with a hammer by accident and you get that little red spot that gets darker) it looks like that.
my params are fine. tank is fully cycled
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 10
ph 7.4 (not sure of the accuracy of my test kit though)
temp 24 deg centigrade
10 gal tank running a rena filstar filter and an air stone.
been fed on hikari pellets peas and gel food.
any help would be much appreciated. alistairw

Alistair, it's really hard to see from the pic also is it a red spot or a black one? How long has it been there? Did it appear over time or did it appear relatively quickly?

Please post back soon smile.gif

it isn't clear on the picture but it is a red spot and it has appeared in the last couple of days

apart from the red spot sam is acting just like normal. just fed him some gel food and he is eating just fine. he's swimming around and digging up the pebbles like he does everyday.

i have just called my lfs and the guy there who is quite knowledgeable suggested using meth blue. i am using king british revitaliser tonic at the mo as one of my fish has slight constepation. is it ok to use meth blue and a salt tonic at the same time ? the lfs guy wasn't sure. i also read on here that you can use meth blue on a coton bud and apply to the area for treatment ? any ideas please
Blue
If I recall on the revitaliser box it says not to be used with other meds or similer meds.I suggest you read the packaging with your meds.As when I use King British meth blue I do not have any other meds in tank except for salt.
Unfortunately I don't currently have either med at home just now.I suggest you check bottles before use to make sure.smile.gif
alistairw
it does say on the king british not to use with any meds that weren't king british. looked up meth blue on google and it said that it shouldn't be used with other meds although salt is ok.
JenW
Because methylene blue is an antibacterial/antifungal, it should be ok to use with salt but I wouldn't raise the salinity over 0.1% while treating. The only med I won't use with salt is Malachite Green.... There are some others but MG is a no no smile.gif
