I have a red capped oranda and 2 black moors, and I was in the store and saw hikari oranda pellets, and I was wondering if I could feed them to all my goldfish.

Sure, Oranda gold have high protein and nice color enchancer.Hikari is also one of the most trusted brand. ^.<

Yeah, Hikari Oranda Gold pellets are supposed to be suitable for all fancy goldfish, but are especially formulated to be higher in protein in order to promote wen growth in Orandas, Lionheads and Ranchus etc. They would be a useful growth and colour enhancer in all fancy goldfish becuase they are a high quality food. They are not the most powerful colour enhancer, so they shouldn't change your Black Moors, although you might see an improved condition.

They are floating pellets, so personally I would pre-soak them in tank water in order to soften them and remove any residual compacted air. Doing this can help to prevent constipation and swimmbladder problems. I use the Hikari Lionhead because they are a sinking pellet, but nutritionally they appear to be pretty similar to Hikari Oranda Gold. Personally, I alternate the Hikari pellets with other brands of staple pellet smile.gif

Hi mrbumblebee,

Where do you buy your Hikari goldfish food from? I'm from the UK too, Nottingham. I haven't been able to find any around here. Or do you know of an online store?

Thanks.

PS. Dave sorry for interrupting your topic.

Hikori lionhead and oranda are basically the same foods. Some people swear by pellets especially hikori. Mrbubblebee is correct though. Please make sure you soak them in water first because once unsoaked pellets are eaten they will soak up water inside the golide and expand causing swim bladder disease. When you soak them the pellet pretty much soaks up all the water it will before they eat it. Somebody asked a similar queston on Friday . here is the post

Hi Vinz

It can be hard to find Hikari products in the UK because of the recent export/import problems. If you really shop around you should find some though.

One of my local fish shops sells Hikari Oranda Gold and Lionhead and I get mine from there.

You can also find some Hikari products on Ebay UK as well, although not all the time and not everything you might want.

I've just checked now and you can get a little packet of Hikari Oranda Gold incuding postage for £3.95, so expect to pay a little bit more this way. I also sometimes get my Hikari Betta food and Bloodworms on ebay as well. I have seen some avaliabilty on some websites though.

This place sells them, but you do have to pay a steep postage charge for smaller orders

Hope this helps a bit, keep trying locally smile.gif

I know petsmart has them here in the states and you can order them online. I will post a page and if you scroll down and look in the middle of the page it has one line where there is a number for international orders to call if you would like to place an order.
here it is

here is their link to the product

I'm not sure if we can individually ship fish food into the UK like that because of customs law, I may be wrong though smile.gif

The petsmart site says it will ship internationally. you just have to call that number listed on the website. They could probably tell you more.
