I read it some where (and don't have the patience to find it again) that one can use baby food when making gel food as long as there's no sugar or other 'bad' stuff. I got a jar of peas and a jar of carrots and the label lists "Peas, water" as the ingredients. That means it's safe to use right?
Also, I have no idea how to make gel food. I read a bunch of recipes already but it all looked like chicken scratch to me. I have baby food, plain gelatin, and pellet food. How much gelatin should I use? One packet? How about crushing up the pellets. How much is enough?

I use the baby food also. I don't have the patience to cook and blend it the other way. I also use the food that only has water and whatever food. When I use pellets of other fish food i soak it first and then just mix it into the baby food gentley. (I don't mash it.)
I mix peas, carrots, sweet potatoes, and a fruit in a pan and warm it up (only to mix the gelitin in.) It softens up from soaking and then stays soft in the gel. As for how much gelitin to use, i measure the amount of baby food i use and go according to the directions on the box. The stuff i have says one packet for each cup of liquid. So for each cup of food i add one packet. I don't add any extra water because i found through trial that any extra water makes it fall apart later on.
Hope this helps.

I pour the warm gel food into those ziploc or gladware containers. I use the small ones that hold about a cup or so, fill half way and freeze. I put one in the fridge, the rest in the freezer, and use a clean spoon to take out what i need to feed the fish.
I tried pouring the gel food into a saran wrap lined pan, but that was messy and you still had to cut the cubes and figure out a way to store them in the freezer. Now i have three of four containers in the freezer and when Im done i put them in the dishwasher and save them for the next batch.
To feed all i do is take a dinner spoon and take out the amount that i want to feed and drop the food in the tank. Usualy you don't even have to touch the food.

Sounds wonderful! Is the gelatin you use found by the jello or somewhere else?

I use Knox clear unflavored gelitin. Here it's in the baking and jello isle.
