Can anyone advise as to what they have used on bare wood that is likely to have water run off into the pond? I am having made for me,two wood frames with a cover net to protect from herons, cats etc, that will sit on the edging blocks surrounding a goldfish/orfe/rudd pond.I am told that yacht varnish, once thoroughly dry, will be safe but, being ultra cautious i am trying to make sure first.has anyone tried this,or used anything else with success?

Thanks! Margaret

I think you are talking about the pressure treated wood, right? The ones that is more durable outside without rotting, less suspectible to moisture damage and such? It sells at HomeDepot and other places. I try to stay away from the treated wood, although it is tempting to use it because of its advances. Its just that the stuff that it has been treated with might not be all that great for fish, once it gets into their water. I do remember a member on Koivet I think who had koi deaths because a small part of his pond was exposed to pressure treated wood, that was a bit overhanging the pond, and leaked stuff into it when it rained.

I don't know about the yacht vanish, maybe if you find a pond supply store or a pond builder in your neighborhood, he might be able to help you out in that direction. smile.gif
