Well I bought a 45 gallon tank from fleamarket which came with hood with flourescent lights, a nice stand and a filter. This filter pumps out 1600liters/hour or 422gallons/hour. I really don't know what kind of filter this is. But I made an illustration of it.

anyone have an idea on what kind of filter this is?
daryl
That is anice drawing, but, unfortunately it does not really give enough information. Any chance you could get a picture posted?

What a wonderful flea market find, by the way! smile.gif

If I am interpreting your drawing correctly and the hood, light and filter are all one piece, then I think it is an Eclipse. It looks sort of like what I saw this weekend at the LFS. I attached a link to petsmart so you could have a look. It would be the first choice on the page.

Ah. I don't have a camera at the moment. But once I got one I will post a picture of it. I think it's one of those DIY filters because its different from the filters sold in local petstores. And Fish Lady the first choice on the page isn't a filter. Thanks guys smile.gif

disaster999
is it a 2 piece hood? the filter is sepreate from the light?
gollie23
Yes the filter is separate from the light.
Fish Lady
Yes gollie 23, that was exactly what I was trying to link to. Sorry about that. I am still sort of new at this and I don't always get it right. Hope someone with more knowledge can help.
gollie23
So.. anybody know what type of filter this is called? Canister? HOB?
gollie23
This is exactly how my tank looks like.

I can't seem to find a picture of the filter, however.
disaster999
why do you want to know more info about your filter? it has a filtration capacity sufficent for your tank.

are you trying to know what type of foam to use? or how to clean it or stuff like that?
gollie23
I guess i just want to know more about this kind of filter, so I could use it better.
disaster999
well i cant think of a way where you could use it better unless you only have half a tank of water in there and the pump is ftghting the force of the water and its not delivering full gph. other than that, just keet general maintanence on the filter...clean out the foam pads once in a while things like that...
gollie23
Yeah. But one thing I noticed though is the filter being bad at getting debris.
disaster999
debris as in poop or really fine particles?

i would try changing the filter media to those foam pads they sell in bags at your LFS. those are farely inexpensive and comes in large quantity.

if you already have that and it still isnt picking up large or small chunks of poop or fine particles, then i dont know what else to tell you as i am in the same boat...my filter isnt making my water crystal clear, and no one seem to have the answer or simply just ignored it.
