O.k. I have been mainly a goldfish head and know a little about bettas and very little about tropicals. I had a 55 gallon tank of angels and chiclids years ago when I was married and my ex did most of the maitenance and care. I am thinking of getting a 3 or 5 (maybe even seven gallon) hex with filter, light, etc and wanted to know what kind of fish besides a betta I could put in there. I thought I might go tropical this time. I have been thinking betta. There is a tropical place by me that has huge bettas for only 5 dollars. They are almost 3 inches long. I checked last night and he was out of them but is getting a shipment in tommorrow. He says it will even have crown tails in there. Any ideas everyone.

Are you treating for something?
If its just for general health I wouldnt really put salt in there.. I dont know.
But I've never gone higher than 0.1% (i think.. i may have done 0.2 if i was deperate) which would be one level teaspoon per gallon.
So if you wanted to salt your 2 gallon tank to 0.1% you would need 2 level teaspoons of salt smile.gif ..maybe just try 0.05% and put one in.

thanks Lucy. I don't have my betta yet. I plan on getting it on Saturday. If you just wanted a general tonic would you put 1 teaspoon in the 2 gallon tank? I have been doing research reading on bettas since it has been a long time since I recently had one and ended up killing the last one I had from lack of knowledge somehow in the past. I want to do it right this time. One of the sites suggested putting salt in there, but the directions as to how much were confusing me. Also is the hex tank with filter built into the top bad for bettas? Thanks for all the help . Want to do my new baby right this time.
