I have noticed lately I have more of that slimey stuff in my tank. You know how when you pick up decorations in your tank they are slick, well this is a step further than that. I am seeing whitish, clearish stuff. I notice it on the bottom quarter of the glass. I can take my scraper & wipe it right off easily.

Any ideas? sad.gif

No need to worry, that stuff is harmless, i forgot the name of that stuff but it's like algae.

ewwww. I recently had a problem with slimey stuff I thought was algea, but it was a blue/black color which was really nasty stuff. Personally I have not had a white/clear slime so I have no idea. I hope you work it out!

I get that stuff on my airline tubing, its always really slippery.. my fish like to suck it off and they are still alive, so it cant be too bad smile.gif

Yes, I agree it must not be harmful cause when I scrape it sometimes they eat it! Oooouuu! ohmy.gif

If the slime in question is clear but slimy to the touch, then it's likely Goldfish slime produced by the Goldfish themselves. Depending on their reaction to the water conditions, this slime can accumulate quickly in a tank with a lot of fish.

During a bought of illness, it took one large Ranchu no more than 5 days to completely slime the walls of a 10 gallon hospital tank. I mean they were dripping with the stuff.

Thanks,
Peter

I thought goldfish slime coat was only on the fish? ohmy.gif I didnt think it spreads. unsure.gif

oooh wierd. I spose some of it must disolve into the water a bit and get replaced (sort of like our skin cells?) and appear elsewhere.

During times of stress, a large goldfish can produce excessive slime to the point where it sheds and starts covering parts of the tank. My experience was with a large sick ranchu in a 10 gallon. 75% water changes and ammo-lock would have limited any type of bacteria or algae. However, this slime accumulated rapidly on the walls of the tank.

I think its just a harmless residue, I get a build up of it every now and again in my tanks too, especially on the sealant in the corners of the tank and sometimes on the silicone airline tubing and the rubber seals of my filter nozzles, not sure why it happens smile.gif
